Talks between protest leaders and the military are underway in Bangladesh, after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country.

Huge crowds stormed Hasina's official residence in Dhaka on Monday, and there was looting and disorder in the capital, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people.

The country's army chief says an interim government and new elections will be announced - although there has not been much detail provided.

Student leaders have said that they will not accept a military-led government.

The protests began back in July with calls to abolish civil service job quotas, but spiralled into demands for Hasina to quit after 15 years in power.

So, army made sure that Hasina is safe and provided her the helicopter so she could flee the country and then they started talking about the JUSTICE! These generals should also be arrested and brought to justice.

Bangladesh is now an independent country 🇧🇩❤️.
We defeated a heinous dictator who fled from Bangladesh after killing almost two thousands innocent civilians throughout this country.
Congratulations Bangladesh. Congratulations to us.

The country of Bangladesh became independent for the second time through the students.
In the last 15 years, crossfire disappeared, killed, harassed and killed thousands of people, today the people of the country have been released.
Dictators have no place in the world. 🇧🇩

Watching country being destroyed with my own eyes is actually painful. PM Hasina was the core power of Bangladesh. All these countries that had their pm resigned are now destroyed and unfortunately Bangladesh is going towards it. Pls bring back PM hasina and save our country pls 🙏

She accepted all the demands of the Students. I didn't expect that the Bangladesh Leader would resign. I was really nervous and crying for her. Her party people were not good but she was very good. She lived a normal life. She improved the country a lot, everyone will miss her one day but now they don't understand. I misunderstood her too. I can't forgive myself now. I cried a lot today because of this.

Army chief will put another party in power. The army chief is asking to leave the country within forty-five minutes. She wanted to record the last speech but was not allowed to do so. I think it was very bad. She left the country in disgrace and she will never come home again. She has given all his property in the name of trust.

My prayers are always for her.

I am seeing my Bangladesh in such a bad situation for the first time in my life. Looting, arson, murder, attacks on religious places of worship of minorities, Jatrabari, corpses lying on the streets of Dhaka. I wonder if this is my country!!! They are turning the country built by Sheikh Hasina into ruin. The looting of Ganobhaban, the heinous act they have done by burning the Dhanmondi house number 32, which is decorated with Bangabandhu's memorial, cannot be expressed in words. I feel ashamed and disgusted to call myself a Bengali today.🇧🇩
