This isn't even a parody. It's perfection

The physical and visual impersonation, is comedic, but Belushi's vocal imitation is top notch. Very impressive. People applauded in surprised appreciation, at first, but fell silent, so they could enjoy a true musical performance. I think the comedy was actually secondary to Belushi's vocal performance. Very powerful . Such a talented man, we lost him too soon.

I saw this "LIVE", as was meant to be. I never thought I'd live to see 30 years of age for the same reason as Belushi. I'll be 69 on Christmas day.

He was an extremely talented and funny man . He passed me at Newark Airport, walking very quickly in the opposite direction . I yelled out "Hey, John !", he turned his head back and gave me "the eyebrow". LOL !!!

R.I.P. Joe Cocker (1944-2014)
R.I.P. John Belushi (1949-1982)

Reason Belushi did this was because the show was still in it's infancy at the time and the producers were having trouble finding a musical act that would show up and perform. At the very last minute, Rob Reiner who was hosting that week suggested Belushi do his Joe Cocker impersonation as the musical act. That wasn't a comedy but the actual musical performance for that show. It stunned everyone, including his fellow cast members and the production staff, and launched Belushi into the stratosphere of stardom. Some people claim Belushi was lip synching to Joe Cocker. Quite the contrary, Belushi was not just a comedian but a talented singer who was taken from us far too soon.

I remember watching it live when it first came on and thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Everyone was talking about it the next day. Joe Cocker always took the fact that he was being made fun of in stride and went on to straighten his life out a few years later. He once said he had become a cartoon character and it motivated him to get straight. Its a shame Belushi didn't see the same light. Two huge talents.

Belushi was one of those once in a lifetime talents that most people will never truly appreciate. He truly embodied, "THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND"

This would be funny if I wasn't blown away by how good Belushi actually sounds!!! He sings almost as good as Mr. Cocker himself!

SNL in the 70s was awesome. Still by far the best cast of all time.

I FINALLY FOUND IT, omigod.. I remember hearing my grandmother literally crying from laughter watching this, and we all ran up to see if she was okay, like she was gasping for air laughing so hard. That's the happiest I'd ever seen her, but it was super funny forreal!!! Especially when I saw the real Joe Cocker perform years later. Thanks for that perfect memory Jim!!

And if you saw this in real time as I did, being familiar with Joe Cocker's style, it was piss-in-your-pants hilarious. Pure genius on the part of Belushi.

I remember seeing this live. Amazing! Also saw when Cocker was on the show as well. Belushi could actually sing! This was before the Blues Brothers. Hilarious and riveting!

I remember watching this on TV when it aired as a kid. His impression was hilarious but, Belushi was, is, and forever will be a rockstar.🤘

When an imitation is so good, you almost mistake it for the real thing.
