Calypso is one of my favorite characters in the show because how she is used in ways that is almost therapeutic for the children and serves a greater role that makes her just really amazing to watch every single time she is on screen for me. I spent an extra long time on certain parts of this video so I will admit I'm exhausted haha but I really hope you buddies enjoy :)

You really opened my eyes when you mentioned the idea of Calypso being a deliberately flawless character. It does make sense the more I look back on the show: She has no flaws because she's not really meant to be a relatable character like the other adults: she's supposed to have a certain sense of distance and aboveness, because she's supposed to come across almost like a guardian angel or spirit guide figure. Not in a literal sense, but more like an ethereal guide and guardian who watches over people and guides them through life.

Honestly I'd love an episode where Calypso mentors an adult for once. It can show how they can have just as troubling thoughts as kids do.

If all teachers were like Calypso the world would be a better place.

Calypsos casual 'Okay' after Pretzels complaining actually made me laugh, anyone else?

Calipso is so motherly, that you'd think that all the puppies could be her children. And I really like how she doesn't mind that her kids call her by her first name.

I love that Calypso’s solution to Jack’s problems was not to fix it herself, but to point him to another child who could help him.

It goes to show that sometimes the best way to help a child isn’t always with the guidance of a teacher, or even their parents, but rather to pair them with the right friend who can help them see what they can accomplish.

I can’t express how much I’m growing to love this show and its characters.

I thought it was clever that she led Jack to a herd dog known for being clever and independent. Someone that was a natural guide to lead someone that just needed a bit of the right guidance.

I didnt expect to break into tears at Calypso's line "You know what's here now. You don't have to keep coming back to this place."
I just got diagnosed with PTSD this year, after about 5 or 6 years of traumas stacking (I think if i'd gotten treatment after the first trauma i wouldnt have PTSD. A lot of other seemingly smaller traumas were added onto the initial one making recovery difficult)

I also found this episode quite interesting due to it's mythological association as well. In Greek mythology Calypso was a nymph that comforted Odysseus and provided a nurturing environment for him until he left on a raft that he built.

Mackenzie’s trauma doesn’t seem like much, but as someone with acute panic disorder, the outside doesn’t have to be when on the inside, things are amplified. I used to be scared of everything, and constantly needed my mom at my side to feel safe. The smallest things would freak me out so bad as if there was a demon controlling my soul. It was scary. I’m so glad I got diagnosed and have meds now, but I definitely relate to that character in a way. ❤

Calypso is like the caring, patient, sympathetic parental figure we needed growing up but didn't have. Neither of my parents ever had sympathy for my traumatic experiences, one similar to MacKenzie where my mom abandoned me at a carnival to go and drink. While Calypso is a fictional character, she is written so beautifully that she feels real and her guidance in the episode Space really hits home for me. The writers of this show are amazing at their art, and I hope they continue to use Calypso to serve as a caring voice not only to the characters in Bluey, but to the audience as well ❤

I think Calypso ends up having little attention to her possible flaws simply because she isnt the focus of the episodes she appears in but rather serves a support role to the stories of the children she watches over. The other adults and especially the parents usually are more fleshed out as many of the lessons are intended for them.

To me, Calypso seems like the Australian Mary Poppins. Practically perfect in every way, appearing to help kids who need guidance, and being vaguely mystical at times.

Calypso is easily one of those fictional teachers we wish we all had at some point in all of our lives. A teacher who is patient, and guiding. As well as one who is as kind as she is wise. Joe Brumm, the series creator considers her debut titular episode his favorite episode. And it's not hard to see why.

I also love that shes an Australian Shepherd. She's herding her students, and guiding them towards the solutions to their problems.

I am a big fan of Montessori mindset. Even though it was only during kindergarten, I never forgot how my Montessori school helped shape my creativity and social play. I owe a lot of the openness of that space for how I was able to keep my learning in check years in the future. It’s all about a child as an individual and guiding them to the lesson based on their personal outlook and style of learning. Calypso encapsulates this so well in just a single character. And even the beautiful and comforting look of the school adds to that character itself.

I literally cried watching this. I am a teacher and I am struggling with my students. I always tried my best to understand my students better like Calypso does, but it's not as easy as it seems. It's really hard, to be honest :'
