Patterson Footage Analysis by Dr. Montagna, 1967

My analysis on a less known analysis of the Patterson Film points out highly flawed logic and bad reasoning that played an important role in dismissing this film as fake. Let me show you why this 1960's attitude never gave this film a chance.

Let's face it. If Patterson could make this happen on a shoestring budget out in the middle of nowhere, then he was truly wasting his time in Bluff Creek. He could have easily been a consultant on the set of the Planet of the Apes.

Even a schoolchild can see through Dr. Montagua’s smug arrogant words. He didn’t give it a scientific review. He dismissed it because how dare anyone even ask me such a question.

I haven’t always been a believer. Until fairly recently I chalked every piece of footage or photograph up to hoaxers. After the (still ongoing) strange incidents around our home and one incident in particular, I was left with (and I mean ‘left with’ quite literally as no other possible, logical conclusion would fit) one answer: they exist. After coming to terms with how wrong I was, how purposefully and blissfully ignorant I wanted to remain, I started my search via books and the internet and came across an enhanced and stabilized version of the PG Film. I still get chills thinking about a certain part in it; just as Patty is trudging along and her right arm extends to her rear when she’s about to pass the fallen tree trunk, she shoots a gaze at Patterson that speaks volumes. That one look took the last 34 years of my life, put it in a blender and hit purée. I know it may just be a look to some, but my first reaction was a primal, guttural feeling of ‘she is in no mood.’ I almost automatically looked down and away to avoid eye contact. It sounds ridiculous I guess, maybe a bit dramatic, but it’s the truth. I’m sure it had a lot to do with listening to any Bigfoot podcast I could find at the time, as well as all the stories I had swimming in my head. I just kept thinking about how certain people had said that during their sightings, their expressions say all that they need to and more. I truly doubt a guy in a monkey suit could convey all that emotion through eyeholes in a mask. Great vid, as usual, and thank you! Your work is very much valued by myself and a lot of others. 👍

I'm not sure that I can believe in bigfoot, but I have stumbled on your videos. In every one, you make a very good argument. I hope that you will keep doing what you do. I don't subscribe to very many channels, but I have yours. I have to see where you are going with all of this. You are very intelligent. Everything you point out makes perfect sense, to me at least. I am quickly turning into a huge fan. I never thought of myself as a bigfoot ( nut), but I am hooked. I have to know more. I need to know more. I anticipate your thought provoking videos. Thanks for your work.

Excellent commentary on Montagna's sneering analysis. He was clearly performing for his peers.

Bob, I have heard it said that a person will defend their worldview (which is, after all, usually tied closely to their own identity) violently, and to the death. That's your point, as I hear it. Great job, as always, presenting the heart of the story.

Bobby G!
That is the best ever point to be made about the P-G film. "I think it would be more unbelievable if it were a hoax."

I saw this on the big screen at Rogers Theater back in the early 70's. I saw all of the monster movies and this looked real. No holes for the eyes, no hen lines at the cuff of the leg or sleeves, no neck line, no gloves or wrinkles. Even the feet are flexible. I have always believed.

I used to denigrate the Patterson film up until very recently, even after I first saw your channel. It was based upon seeing it 30 years ago. I no longer think it fake; I seriously remember it differently.

This is my new favorite video of yours - The comparisons between the Patterson film and BBC's attempt at a recreation are powerful when shown side by side. I can't believe that Montagne called Phrenology one of the 'occult sciences' considering it was literally mainstream science in it's day and it is an embarrassment to those who claim science to be infallible. Just a great video all around, dude. Posted six years ago but I still want to say thanks for taking the time!

Dr.Montagna spent many years prior to the Patty film building his credibility as a primatologist. He walked the easy road of conformity as to the P/G film so to protect his legacy.
He was a man of which great discovery's and conquest would have been lost to. Taking the road MOST traveled, there by remaining in the good graces of the established narrative so prevalent in the his world.

The end quote makes me think of the moon landing at the end of the space race and how people bring up the theory that it was a hoax. Imagine how hard would it be to fake an entire new environment and atmosphere (or the lack of one, to be more precise) in 1969? Movies struggle to depict accurately how it looks to walk on the moon to this day without CGI. All of it just makes me think of how insanely hard and, frankly, just as amazing it would be to hoax the landing rather than simply do it.

I am afraid ( actually glad ) that Bob Gymlan takes apart Dr. Montagna's " analysis " apart quite readily. Just the negation of Montagnas quote invovling hair on the breasts of the creature was more than enough

Thanks Bob for putting emotion and sentiment aside and looking at this objectively. The truth is I personally am more swayed by people's individual accounts of their experiences with BF than any video I have seen including this one - the Patterson/Gimlan video.

Another great piece of work. Thank you bob. Also thank you for the research on chimps hiding their tracks. I've actually sent people to watch your video about that because that info is not well known even by the seasoned Bigfoot enthusiasts.

Dr. Montagna states he is not "...cautious about my own convictions" . In this unscientific and blunderous statement, he is, in effect, telling us he made up his mind before he made any investigation. Boooo, Montagna! Shame on you!

Very good video. That's what I think as well. If it's a hoax, it's one of the best ones in the world. Also this would have to be the best suit ever. Not that it meens it's real, some suit has to be the best one, but I just see it unlikely that Roger Patterson would have had it in 1967.

You know what, I love this channel because even if you don't "believe", Bob argues with precise logic that there IS a mystery in the forests of North America and that "Bigfoot" is far from an impossible explanation for that mystery.

If it were a staged thing, they'd have to have used bear pelt, not a commercial costume, imo.
