Yes Daniel! A lot of people think that when they sing they should immediately pull the stomach in when in reality they should just keep the chest from collapsing until all the air is used.

This is why we were taught the exercise in our first singing lessons - singing is essentially maintaining that sensation as we slowly exhale the air.

Hi Daniel. I have a question related to this topic, in two parts:
1. I've heard (from others) about engaging your abdominal muscles for singing as if bracing for a punch. I've also heard in one of your interviews with Alexander Kariotis about "leaning" on the area of the abdomen just below the navel for proper support. Do both of these approaches accomplish the same thing as far as proper support (i.e. appoggio)?
2. when I try to engage my abdominal muscles in any of these ways, they inevitably start collapsing right away and very quickly. Is this something that will improve over time (where they won't collapse so fast), or is there something else I should be doing to avoid the fast collapse?
