How to - Remove and Reinstall Beckson Ports

I did a search online and found some information on the Beckson Website on how to remove and install a port. I thought it would be helpful for others to show how we removed and replaced the ports in our boat.

These ports were not leaking when we bought the boat, but clearly had at some point in the past, given the rotted decorative wooden panels on the coach roof walls. In an effort to replace those rotted wooden panels, we had to remove our ports, and then reinstall them when the work was complete.

I hope you find this video helpful.

I was about to purchase new Becksons, but reinstalling them with new gaskets will likely solve my leak issues!

Thanks for the video, I'm re-caulking the Becksons in my Hallberg 35 Ketch soon and was looking for exactly the kind of information you posted. I agree with the 100% silicone; as you stated, Beckson specifically calls for it's use.

Mike G - I am using 100% silicone. You will find most people will say never use silicone on a boat, however with these Beckson ports it is specifically what the manufacturer recommends. See here for info from Beckson. I hope you found the video useful.

It's an eight minute video on why you buy the boat with the stainless steel or aluminum frames .

I realize Beckson says 100% Silicone only. But your showing us the bulkhead that is completely destroyed from using 100% silicone caulk. I would be using Sikaflex if it was my boat. The caulk should last as long as the window. Silicone is horrible stuff. It ruined your bulkheads. Such a beautiful boat.
