I Can't Get Sober, It's Too Boring! | The Truth About Sobriety

One of the main reasons people give for not giving sobriety a try is that they are afraid that they will get too bored. It's hard for those of us who love to drink to imagine going through life without those awesome drunk highs. But after awhile we get tired of those drunk lows and realize that we need to make a change. But we can't bear the thought of living our lives without alcohol.

In this video I talk about my struggle with drinking and alcohol and how I have been blessed to be winning the fight these days. I discuss my thoughts on overcoming the fear of getting too bored while living a sober life.

*Note: I do not use the term alcoholic or alcoholism because I think there is alot of negative energy around those terms. Just my personal opinion, I mean no disrespect to anyone who considers themselves to be an alcoholic or suffering from alcoholism.

I remember when I was at my worst of addiction and my mom told me: "Ruby, I know you can be happy sober. I've seen you." And that really did help me quit when it was time. Now I'm 6 months today!

My father was an alcoholic until he was 42. He wasn’t the greatest Dad during his drinking years. He was a different person during his 27 years of sobriety up until his passing. Became a great father and grandfather. So thankful.

Having 'friends' that completely revolve around being high is just as painful as being alone.

You have to be comfortable with boredom for *A WHILE*, because your dopamine is completely messed up. So, anyone who fears it's boring.... You're 100% correct, and it will take a ridiculous amount of time and effort to overcome it. But, that's worth it in the scope of the alternative. Enjoy your sickness.

Was a drinker. Started to get sick alot. Stopped drinking and didn't know who I was. Stopped hanging out with all my friends. Became very aware of suicidal thoughts.
Now, I am cycling around and camping, painting alot, just accepting myself.
Really, I just wanted to live a creative life without the stresses of being tied up with people who dont see things the way I do. Solitude will save a person's life.

I was sober for 9 months and then went back and had terrible allergic reactions, and bad memories. I’ve decided I’m going to live a complete sober lifestyle going forward. 2 months in♥️ Edit: 6 months sober!

After being a daily drinker for over 20 years. I will hit my 3 years sober in a few weeks. I went to Schick Shadel in Seattle WA. it was amazing!! A very important thing for everyone to know is that you can use FMLA to enter rehab and will get 60% of your wages paid and insurance companies will pay everything once it goes over your deductible. Greatest decision I’ve ever made!!

I am Irish. I'm 31 years old. I gave up alcohol when i was 24 years old after suffering from debilitating Anxiety and Panic Attacks. Growing up in Dublin all Young people do is drink. Starting around age 16 they drink huge amounts of alcohol. Why would they do any different? They see their parents and friends drinking. By the time they are in their mid 20s they are so used to drinking it's hard to give up.

Life is better without alcohol. I've attracted a beautiful wife and a great lifestyle and also moved to Paris. It's crazy the culture change in regards to alcohol i see Parisians drink a glass of wine or 3-4 beers. I've rarely seen a drunk perisian. In Ireland people just get trashed pissed drunk to the point they can't even remember what happened.

Anyways those who are struggling with alcoholism I'm sending you love and strength to give it up and become healthier and happier and attract more beautiful things into your life. You deserve it.

Drank big for 40 years. Started catching up to me health wise. Realized I was a slave to alcohol. So I quit. Glad I was Able to .Six months later, I have lost over 30 pounds, feel WAY better. At 60, I have abs again ! And seems like I got a raise from not spending $$ on booze. Just do it.

My father was an alcoholic when I was growing up and I was amazed at how easily I slipped into drinking daily. When I would think about stopping, then I'd get hit with that boredom. My brain was searching for that usual dopamine hit and it was rocky for a while there. Thankfully I got it under control now. I can't bring no liquor in the house or Imma drink the whole bottle. Some of us have addiction in our DNA so we gotta be careful.
