ASUSTOR Explainer - Why does the Flashstor not include heatsinks for SSDs?

You might have noticed that the ASUSTOR Flashstor 6 and Flashstor 12 Pro do not come with heatsinks for SSDs. This is intentional. The Flashstor series come with an active cooling solution that consists of a fan blowing cool air directly over SSDs. In normal operating ambient temperature environments, tested SSDs do not exhibit signs of overheating outside manufacturer specs. Heatsinks are available for purchase if operating the NAS in an extreme ambient temperature evironment, but are not usually necessary for most environments. Future SSDs may have higher heat dissipation requirements. Leaving heatsinks as a separate purchase allows everyone to customise their experience.

In this video, we test the NAS in a 35°C environment to show that there are no issues with heat dissipation.

Thanks for the clarification. You got really close to getting me to click buy but if only the product team can spend $50 extra and get this eliminated. Rest the user mind at rest and don, t let them make mistakes of not putting the heatsinks in properly. I look forward to the next version. Hopefully, soon.

I just purchased the 12 Pro an hour ago, and despite my research before buying, only recently ran across concerns about the heatsink issue. So, thank you for relieving my purchase anxiety.

Btw, what 4TB sticks would you recommend to obtain the max speed the CPU will allow?

The SSDs will only run at PCIe x1 speed in the Flashstor. So why would they over heat when they run at 30% of performance? Common sense.

I mean he put it on a rack which allows the fan to pull air through easily.... he should have put it on the cardboard

It's great that Asustor did this, but exactly how long was the actual test for? I'd be somewhat sceptical if it was only 10 minutes or so. Or to put it another way, how long would be reasonable to see whether the drives were overheating?

Oh wow, this is video sure is a quick response to the video that NASCompares made, you guys do care about your product.

I am currently shopping for a new NAS as well, and it just so happened that yesterday, I was watching the same video yesterday as well!

Flashtor has hit almost 90% of what I want in a NAS, but after the video I hesitated about Flashtor product not operating with heatsinks.

However, this is video shows a short term test, NAS operates for long period of time, so would Flashtor 12 still have the same operation temperature after 8 working hours on full performance?

Hi, just ran to this video cause felt like my FS6712x is a bit hot. Running in ambient 24 celsius. Fan set to High speed and disk temps are up to 57-75 celsius. System temp 69 celsius and CPU 79c

To be honest, heatsinks are cheap, NVME are not, After I ordered my Flashstor 6, then straight after, I ordered heatsinks. But great video, thanks for taking the time.

They should test the temperature higher than 35c, in some of countries the weather is even hotter than 35c. Some of the environments are even higher than 40c
Some of the small business companies the riser room / or small server rooms even no install air conditioner inside the room
