“It’s looking promising for us to have an orbital launch attempt in a few months!”
Elon Musk has just officially announced the new timeline for Starship’s first orbital flight and it’s freaking cool!
According to Musk, it’s “highly likely” SpaceX will be ready to attempt its first orbital Starship launch in November 2022, and possibly as early as late October!
That schedule even is much earlier than NASA's suggestion!!!

SpaceX have got to make this work in order to put Starlink version 2 into orbit in sufficient numbers. The revenues from the completed Starlink constellation will fund further booster/starship development. A classic chicken and egg situation. I'll be watching every moment and good luck to SpaceX, they are creating our future.

While I don't actually expect the first Starship attempt to make orbit, I'm both looking forward to watching it, and wishing them luck that I will be wrong...

I’ll get excited when I see a launch license

"Moving fast and taking big risks" has its place - at the start of the development process. Don't be too impatient with SpaceX - the present speed of progress is still amazing. It is a good time to become slightly more conservative.
BTW, recent static fires cause lots of damage - nothing spectacular, but many little "injuries" both to launch infrastructure and vehicles themselves. That's what testing is for, and now B7 is being upgraded, informed by the lessons learned.

Another good one, and not a single click-bait in sight 😀
You overemphasize "caution", though; at this phase is it perfectly reasonable. BTW, as you see, NASA's estimate of the first orbital launch mentioned in that 73rd IAC paper this August was right on target.

I will genuinely be surprised if it actually launches in November

They haven't been PERMITTED to launch. The FAA and regulatory controls have been preventing them from keeping up a high launch/test cadence. I think if SpaceX had been allowed to they would have continued their test campaigns the way they had been. In the meantime they've been working on ground equipment, like the new launch tower, the improvements at the Cape, and other aspects.

Putting engineers to real work. Mars or bust. Elon will be the King of space.

NASA and all of the arm chair "experts" need to get out of SpaceX's way and let them proceed at their own speed. THEY have the test data and the results of the simulations - no one else. SpaceX will do what is best if allowed to do so.

The first few prototypes that flew only had three engines which cost a million a piece plus the cost of the prototype. The boosters have up to 33 engines which cost 33 million plus the cost of the booster. I can see why SpaceX would take a more conservative approach with the boosters. Every time they light the fuse on this rocket it's going to cost them 40 to 50 million. That ain't chump change.

That is how von Brawn developed the V2. Fly-and-test.

Starship and the booster are built like coke cans - weak and easy to crumple when empty, but very strong when pressurised. The easiest way to ensure full strength of these rockets is to fully fill the fuel and oxygen tanks. That will provide enough fuel for an orbital launch. The hard part will be 'ship recovery so it's likely that will be allowed to burn up when the mission is done.
