The German small talked out of the goodness of his heart even though he knew he'd regret it.

Being German I learned a lot from the Australians. They really have nice way to make you feel, they are happy to get to know you. I was a typical german before, but learnt, that the world can be much brighter, if we just use the unavoidable contacts each day as chance to make each others day a bit brighter. A smile, a friendly comment, a joke, a compliment.

And a the English say: "Never be too busy to be polite."

Greetings to all the Australians out there. You changed my life!

Hey, the English guy is getting germanized!

He heard "how are you today" and he actually gave an honest answer, instead of responding with "fine". That was a very German thing to do!

See? See? No smalltalk! He learned and went straight to deep talk! That's the way to do it. I'm proud of you!

All that happened to the English man and he still had a smile on his face. That is the level of contentment I want to achieve in life.

As an introvert, I discovered to have Germany in the heart. Ahahah.
But I cannot deny that I like the English humor and sometimes these small talk, are not a problem for me.

I tried making small talk with Germans on holiday in canaries. I'm a northern 'englander' as well and I can talk the hind leg off a donkey. They were a young couple and very sweet but it was a bit like getting blood out of a stone. My silly questions and their straightforward one word answers. I think they might have thought I was a bit nuts.

Meanwhile Small Talk in northern Germany:

"Jo moin"
"Tach"
"Na wie is?"
"Muss ne?"
"jo"
"Ich muss wieder ne?"
"jo bis denn"

If the German just ignored the English man the German would've been happy that the English man feels like a German

The German avoiding an English person’s monthly attempt at small talk, the English person avoiding an American’s daily attempt at small talk.

Different culture. It was also very Hard for me to get used to it, especially as a Hungarian person. We love "small talks" and when we ask someone "how are you?" the only appropriate answer is to tell your centire life since the moment of concievemnet up until the present. If you see your future, you tell it too, and if you remember your past lives you tell it also. 😁 The "fine thanks, and you?" as an answer is actually considered to be rude here. We need these "small talks" and it was a shock for me how different does it work in Germany. 🤷‍♀️
