This sort of things happen with the economic cycle. During economic downturn companies will retrench employees. Then when the economic upturn returns, companies will employ people. For people who are out of work - just take any job to earn money to pay bills, buy food etc. Then continue to look for a better job & a well paid job. I had been through this myself. Now I’m retired & luckily I have a good pension to live on.

Be a poor farmer, a beggar, a road sweeper and eat 1 meal a day .
At the end of the day, you are still a human and die as 1 on the same ground as the rich and kings.
Do not be too attached to 1 job that pays high as you are born to suffer along the way in this life .

Don’t use the word firing, use layoff. Give the people credit for the good work they did . The situation they are in is due to bad decisions from corporate highs, the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, who are not fired despite admitting bad decisions.
Firing has a negative annotation!
Layoff is a company situation that is not in the employees control
