The year is 1894, and the small provincial town of Zatonsk has calmed down after the ominous events that occurred in the first season. Anna Mironova has also lost her gift of communication with spirits. But one day the spirits return, as does Yakov Shtolman, who had mysteriously disappeared before. A gloomy shadow now looms over Zatonsk again, as more brutal murders start to shake the town and its citizens. Anna and Shtolman team up to fight the criminals and bring them to justice. Dear writers, why would you make Anton Andreivich suffer by having him fall in love with Anna before, then have him fall in love and almost marry Polina, and then subject him to the pain of realizing Polina is the main villain AND watching her get killed? Our dear, pure, kind Anton Andreivich, how could you? I'm not ready to forgive you.
Villainy aside, I love that a woman was the villain! It made sense, since the season 1 villain was more or less Nina. And Polina is a damn good shot, like sniper level (unlike many of our leading men!). She didn't miss a single shot (except Yakov, but he ducked behind a tree). It's interesting how she shot Anton's hat first, almost like a warning to him to stop pursuing her. And its interesting to see a bit of remorse when she aims for Anton the second time with the intent to kill him, almost like she regretted having to hill him. But I notice that she takes her time to aim at Anton the second time, which gives Yakov the time to set up his shot and aim for her. It's almost like she knows she's defeated and she's giving time for Yakov to shoot her. Such a heartbreaking scene!
