Just connected that Podrick is from the same House as Ilyn and that's why Tywin spared him based on the name Payne. By the time in the show that Podrick explains how he came into Tyrion's service, Ilyn Payne is basically just a name on Arya's list, and I didn't know why Tywin cared about House Payne cuz I don't think they explained it in the show, so thank you for this context

Yes, Ser Illyn Payne's backstory and moments from the books are interesting! I think he was depressed when Jaime offered him a place in his army, thus the mess in his rooms, but, like book Jaime, he is trying to change his life. Jaime, with Tyrion gone and wrongly believing that his brother had betrayed him (Tyrion lied he had poisoned Joffrey to spite Jaime for having lied about Tysha), needed a male trustworthy friend/ally. So, Jaime couldn't trust his childhood friend Addam Marbrand with everything, so Jaime thought Ser Illyn Payne's inability to speak and fighting skills made him a perfect training partener and the perfect confessor. Leave it to Jaime to cut the middleman and confess straight to the executioner :-). They have a funny moment at a dinner where Jaime complains about Cersei's infidelity and asks Illyn what to do to her, the executioner mimics cutting her tongue but Jaime remembers her skills with her tongue and rejects the advice. I remember laughing when I read this, I mean, you know you are screwed when you have to ask relationship advice from a mute executioner. It's also wierd how Illyn beats Jaime up more than necessary for training and he takes it without complaint because he felt it was his atonement for his crimes. I suspect Illyn knows how to read and write but hides it for some reason...
