My wife “quit” her job to raise our children.
I’d rather be poor than short change our children.

It should be "people don't want to be slaves anymore! Many people, particularly the younger generation, use a range of unconventional methods of earning a living these days. I worked in the retail for over 10 years, so l'm quite happy that this is taking place. For too long, retail bullied me and a lot of my employees/colleagues saying things like "if you don't like it, go; another like you is waiting to get into your position " since the COVID, I found a job that helps me grow, pays me more and Values Me Social media cleared the way for a rapidly expanding market, and it taught us a lot. 2020 was my turning point, and investment helped alot!

I’m a very right wing person and agree with some of these points... but even from personal experience from friends and family, lots of bosses expect the world from you but still treat you like shit. Expect undying loyalty but will throw you under the bus without second thought

If you're quitting your job to start your own business, that doesn't count as "not wanting to work". That's when people discover the risks involved in running a business.

I’m 28 and quit my corporate job to pursue a first responder firefighting position. I couldn’t take the blatant disregard for one’s personal life and time. Believe it or not i actually have more free time with my wife and family firefighting than when working for corporate idiots.

Antiwork? I wouldn’t say that. I would say from my personal experience that people are tired of being treated like garbage by companies.

As a 24 year old Gen Z'er, I know why so many of my peers are quitting. it's not a "laziness" epidemic. Many of us are just sick of being treated like shit by massive corporations and getting paid next to nothing. It feels like a waste of life and, for many, it's just not worth it.

What we need is more fulfilling jobs. Jobs that pay well and actually amount to meaningful work. Unfortunately, under President Houseplant, we're not getting those.

another problem is this "the customer is always right mentality" you have retail and service employees who have to deal with rude costumers and management not having their employee's backs, letting customers treat employees like crap.

I was anti work for a while then I changed jobs and found how fulfilling it can be working with good people and actually achieving something.

Because all my jobs sucked and my bosses treated me like crap. Now I’m self employed and better off.

"The customer is always right" ruined most public facing jobs, especially the retail and food industries. People may all the sudden enjoy their jobs more if people are held accountable for how they treat people who are working.

I was an associate at a small law firm. My partners had me on call 24/7, would harass me with work when I bothered to take even one day off and would call me at all hours of the night to go to the office and do things. They mistreated the staff and never even bothered to get me an assistant or a paralegal for the 70 cases I handled on my own. I confront them about my low pay and no staff and they said that’s how they started out. I’m glad to say I quit and have started my own firm. I make more money doing the same work and I don’t have anyone telling me what to do and when to do it. Best decision I’ve made for myself and my mental health

The younger generations paid big money to go college where they were told fairytales about what type of jobs they'd get and how much money they'd make. In reality, corporate American has been increasingly screwing over it's workforce in terms of pay, benefits and raises, while making record profits. And worst of all, they treat you like you're expendable. Yes, there are people gaming the system, but I don't think it's fair to look negatively at everyone who leaves their job because they find more value in living life than being an indentured servant to debt.

When schools tell kids to stay in school or become a second class citizen as a food worker, kids aren’t going to take those jobs. They would rather be “lazy” than second class.

My wife quit and went back to being a mother and a housewife. We've never had happier.

I totally agree with the anti-work movement. I read a post about a guy who had his grandmother die and his boss got upset bc he called 4 hours before the shift so he could be with her in her last few hours. He got threatened to be fired and he had enough.

Even myself, a working mother in the middle of a pandemic, was threatened to be fired when my child has to be tested for covid and I stayed home with her. Or when I had to leave bc she had diarrhea 8 times in 6 hours. I don't need this bullshit.

People want to be treated like human beings, not machines.

I guess I was part of this “Big Quit” stat, I’m a Gen Z guy that left my terrible $11/hr retail job where my boss would take our phones if he saw their OUTLINE IN OUR POCKET, they had to stay in our lockers. The “break area” was literally the dumpster pickup area for a hooters that made you gag if you breathed through your nose, if your shift started at 10:00 you couldn’t clock in at 9:59 and if you did at 10:01 you were late for the day; 5 of those and your fired meanwhile the stock people would yell at you to get out of their way because we would all huddle around the clock in machine a few minutes before shift start blocking them from working. I started a new job with much higher pay in a different industry a couples weeks after leaving. Retail and hospitality employers have to treat their people better if they want them to stick around.

Not enough people are mentioning the skills gap either; tradesmen rates have plummeted while rates have increased significantly. When I started as an inside Wireman Apprentice in 2009, it was $12.50 an hour. Now, in our local market, it's $35.00!

Job seeker: Hi, I'd like to have a job as a Cashier.

Employer: Certainly, just need you to have 3 years work experience, a PHD in physics and to have graduated from a high-end university.
