Ego death happened to me on LSD. At first it was scary, felt like i am dying or disappearing. Actually i was dying (the identity). After that it was just pure light an love. Felt like i was reborn. I realized that our true nature is love. One of the most memorable, fantastic, powerful and intergalactic experiences of my life!

Ego, or " I am " never dies, just stops identifying with a limited mind and automatically identifies with / becomes timeless Existence itself.
IOW Infinite individualized consciousness. ( the real ME ).
btw Watts was a drunk - had to get sloshed to do a talk. He was wrong ( see the above ) Its the individual's limited mind that falls away when it's been worn away enough on the path ( DarkNOTS ) for the ego ( I am ) to transfer its identity on to its original ( Infinite Unconscious ) existence, only with full consciousness that evolution had stage -by -stage- species developed - but at human stage no longer necessary

to know the true self you must know who you are in Christ then you must know Christ as your heavenly Father and live accordingly inside and out not being perfect but true to his teachings in the Bible and your heart.
