LA destruction: Before and after video shows wildfire devestation
Показать описание
Strong winds will continue to stoke firestorms in Los Angeles, the National Weather Service has said, as the Palisades fire, the largest of them, roared closer to residential areas.
The authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for an area including parts of the Brentwood and Encino neighbourhoods following a “significant” flare-up.
A “fire-tornado” has been spotted over the Palisades area of Los Angeles as the wildfires continued to rage throughout the night.
Helicopters belonging to the local news station KTLA5 filmed the tornados, also known as a fire whirl or fire devil, early on Saturday morning.
The phenomenon is formed when wildfires ignite, creating their own weather patterns. The plume of fire combines with rotating air to form a spinning column like a small tornado.
The whirls were regularly seen last year as firefighters tackled blazes along the California-Nevada border. It is unclear how many of these spouts are currently alive over LA.
