Hatchling Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) can hibernate for almost six months in environments with low or even zero oxygen due to subzero temperatures. Their hearts stop beating, but start again when the weather warms.

How is it possible that their heats stop beating completely?? I’ve head of extremely reduced heart rates in animals when hibernating but to stop completely?! Any biologist wanna help me understand this one?
