I once got in an old Mercedes taxi which had 600, 000 miles on the clock. The owner said he had changed the oil and filter himself every 5, 000 miles and that engine was still ticking over sweetly

Wow I'm impressed at how thorough this was. You even covered the turbo cooldown period.

That was great ! As Scotty says, "Oil is cheap, Engines are expensive". I guess a new engine starts at what, $10, 000 ? You'll buy a lot of oil and filters for that

Apply the "Severe Maintenance Schedule", Mr. Canada!

The oil doesn't really break down, it's the additives that do. If you get blow by from a turbo and fuel dilution changing the viscosity of the oil you need to change more often.

Mark, excellent video about caring for your car, especially now that most people can't afford to buy a new one. Folks should take more satisfaction out of keeping a good car running for a long time and keep it looking nice. I've got a 13 year old Mustang GT with 180, 000 miles and the engine runs great. I still get compliments on my car 🙂. We'll show these OEM's. Drive it until the wheels fall off!😆

Frequent oil and filter change
…… pay attention to abnormal sounds, warning lights……. Avoid unneeded weight…… keep service maintenance up to date ( coolant brakes, filters etc ) …….change timing belts as recommended…..
warm up / cool down.

Ignore the 10, 000 mile recommended oil change intervals. 5K minimum, 3K for small turbo motors.

Great advice, all ! I have been looking for a well maintained Pre-2020 Tundra . I do an immediate pass when the Carfax shows regular oil changes at 10K . Only a fool would buy a vehicle that had oil changes every 10, 000 miles !!

OMG that is a nice neighborhood you are filming in. Fancy houses and cars in the background. Is that a Porsche 996 in the frame at about 7:42 to 7:48? I think so! I have one just like it only a C2 coupe... not a cabrio (which should be avoided). Fantastic car last of the true analog narrow body NA engine Porsches, and mine is a manual. It gets Liqui Moly 5w40 at regular intervals. BTW IMS BFD.

I daily drive a 2017 Nissan 370Z that I intend to keep forever. I change the oil every 3, 000-3, 500 miles with the special synthetic ester oil that it calls for. Overkill? Perhaps, but definitely cheaper than a new engine.

Some older cars, example my 2001 acura integra cruises at 3k at around 65ish mph. Though engine and transmission is still original and has 209k miles, it's still strong. But supposedly it's built like that to be strong motor to take on high rpm. Above all, it's fun to hear the B series roar! Driving a slow car fast, is definitely fun than driving a fast car slow. 😎👍

Halved the oil change frequency on all my motorcycles.
Works a treat in extending their lives.
Also fitted a magnetic sump plug to make sure all metal contaminates dont circulate and wear the componantes

I own two older BMWs and they still run great following the tips you stated. Consider investing in a code reader. Good way to see what a code means and you may be able to service the car yourself. Great video!

Consider Lubralon as well. One treatment makes your engine last longer because it decreases metal friction by coating the surfaces. Cheap at 50.00 a treatment once every 50K or so. Also a version for your transmission, auto or manual. I have used it for years. Available online.
