Imagine a person that revelled in being praised all the time. You wouldn't want them round for tea would you?

I love how people will say that he ridicules the bible when he just flatly references what the bible actually says, and it just sounds ridiculous when it's said out loud.

Your reward for praising God your whole life is praising God forever. Lovely.

If there's an afterlife, I imagine having plenty of time to listen to Christopher give a talk, and there would be no reason to stop him. Plenty of time to listen.

Only happy emotions and praising in heaven...what happened to that free will that was so important?

Imagine Heaven, is a place where you are locked away with all the people you avoid in the airport?

That is indeed a fair pracis of the biblical descriptions of heaven. Wait. You GET to prostrate yourself before god? You GET to praise ceaselessly? No thank you.

I remember from my childhood, teachers at Catholic school and priests telling us we should be good to go to heaven, then watching some depictions of heaven on TV as angels on boring clouds with noting to do, then I read the bible, and I found the description as joining the choirs of angels in praising god all the time forever. Looked like hell to me, if the devil had so low self esteem that he made all the dammed praising him non stop as punishment.

Religion is keeping our species in the bronze age.

I remember when I started applying the attributes of the Old Testament God to a flesh and blood person.

You realize pretty quickly that it would be a sociopathic narcissistic truly evil person.

I loved the movie Bedazzled and couldnt understand why so few knew about it ! I also thought floating about on a cloud with a harp would be unbelievably boring ...😅

If fod is all powerful all encompassing, creator of all, why does he need me to grovel and praise him all the time ???

Hitch's takedown of the bizarre fairy tale of "heaven" has always been one of his best. Notice how the faithful either try to weasel-word their way around the nightmare of eternal praise and nothing else, or insist that heaven just means "seeing loved ones again".

It has always seemed absurd to suppose that a god would choose for his companions, during all eternity, the dear souls whose highest and only ambition is to obey.

I remember thinking this on my own at church when I was 14 or so, the way heaven is described, an eternity of servitude, sounds like hell to me, it sounds like torture and I don't want any part of it

I don't believe in gods, although I recognize it's impossible to know for sure if there is another plane of existence after death. But as a thought experiment, I tried to think of what a heaven would be like for me. I really couldn't think of anything. Worshiping a diety forever sounds at best, boring as fuck. Winning at everything you do is equally boring. Knowing this will go on forever is also boring as fuck.

Best reference… Peter Cook and Dudley Moore dialogue is superb!

Lol, ... Praise out of fear is completely different from Praising out of Deep Love and Gratitude 😊
