I believed the Xbox's control & design were heavily based on the Dreamcast & Sega were big contributors to the Xbox brand back in the day with the likes of Jet Set Radio Future, Crazy Taxi 3 & Panzer Dragoon Orta. Some people considered the Xbox as the spiritual successor to the Dreamcast so if PlayStation never existed then I think the Xbox would've been a slightly different system at least in terms of physical design. Interesting theory.

For me, this would be the ideal world to live in. Sega would still be in the console wars and in steady competition with Nintendo, they wouldn't rush out the Saturn or the Dreamcast to stay ahead of Sony. I never liked the Playstation consoles because in addition to causing Sega to leave the console wars, they rely way too heavily on third-party support (Sega and Nintendo make their own games), and their button scheme is different from every other major console on the market.
