Neanderthals left a mark on our DNA and most people on earth have Neanderthal heritage. In this video we will discuss the physical traits present in modern humans that may indicate a higher degree of Neanderthal DNA.

The picture on the thumbnail appears to be Nikolay Valuev, a Russian heavyweight boxer who was eventually diagnosed with acromegaly. That was the reason for the bone formation in his face, not Neanderthal genes.

My anthropology professor called that a 'throw back'. And she used to people watch looking for 'throw back' traits. She was a physical Anthropologist and specialized in human skulls. She taught Your genotype determines your phenotype.

I have all six plus a prominent occipital bun, receding chin, widely spaced wisdom teeth, bony joints, overactive immune system and have to be on anticoagulants. Seasonal depression can also be a problem.

So Neanderthal's did not die out, we are still here.

Poor Valuev. When ever anyone is talking about Neanderthals, people show his picture. What happened to Ron Perlman?
I have 5/6 traits.

I didn't know that Shakira was a Neardental

I had 3 and was totally opposite on 3. Im very tall and slender, but 7 years ago in my mid 50s, a 6, 000 pound F-150 drove over my rib cage. Shattered my scapula, but I can do everything I used to except throw with my right arm. Good thing I was ambidextrous. My ancestors were Vikings and I thought that's where all these traits came from.

I M from Turkey . I have very pale skin and reddish hair(before I ve lost my hair).I am now bold. Shorter than the average male, Iam 170 cm s tall. I have an elongated dolicosephalic skull. I also have a fatty belly now, but not so much. On the contrary, I have some backhair, as well as some hair on the upper torso. I have visited and lived in several foreign countries in the west. People never guessed correctly that i am Turkish. May be I am neandertahl then so far :)

My wife's aunt had a 23 and me test that showed almost 20% Neanderthal. It would explain why my wife could leg-press 600 pounds in middle-school.

I liked the video, but (and I know this point is being discussed) I call Neanderthals human. There is the Neanderthal or denisovan human, and then there is the sapiens human (sapiens sapiens allegedly, but I am not sure we deserve to be called doubly wise).

I also question how Neanderthal gene content gives modern homo sapiens men 'a hairless back'? Quite the reverse I would say. The hairiest backs are to be found amongst those with arguably the highest amount of Neanderthal genes - from southern Europe through the Middle East into India! Not one indigenous Amerindian group has hairy backs much less hairy chests. I think it's safe to say that Asian males do not have hairy backs, except possibly the Ainu (though I don't know). Slavs and Scandinavian males seem free from back hair as well. Then you have those Scots and Welsh guys with fur from the chin down. Unless you can direct me to peer-reviewed scientific research this is not something my own observation supports.

Wouldn't it all just be a LOT easier if we all just agreed that Neanderthals were actually 100% HUMAN?

I had my DNA analyzed by National Geographic a few years ago. Turns out I have 1.5% Neanderthal genes, and 1.4% Denisovan, which is surprising bc most of my ancestry is otherwise, Northern Germanic. I can burn easily from the sun, tend to freckle, and have a short, squarish body, broad in shoulders, with that lovely fatty tummy area! Guess I can thank my Neanderthal roots for those! Am also very fair skinned. 😂

Bald, occipital bun, only 5 foot 8, no back hair... I seem to be quite Neanderthal then...

I have light sensitive skin, barely any hairs on my back, my dad's side is on the shorter side (around 150cm tall) and I have fat stored on my torso (I dont have an active lifestyle), also prone to diabetes, but my head is as round as it can be, also I have thick curly hair and no signs of baldness.

For context, I'm a young man from Turkey.

1- I have olive skin, my skin is average for a Mediterranean country and my hair is jet black. I do burn a bit but not as easily as my mother.
2- Due to the my age I don't exhibit any signs of baldness. My father's side doesn't have it but my mother's side does.
3- I don't have back hair, no one in my close family does.
4- My weight is normal for my height despite my lack of exercise. I try to maintain a balanced diet. I've had a belly before, but I've never been obese.
5- My skull is globular.
6- I'm taller than average (6 ft - 182 cm)

I don't think I have much Neanderthal DNA tbh.

Do not complete DNA tests and have your biological data stored with some random corporation.

Unbelievably irresponsible for yourself and those who you are related to.
