This is a self defense story every gun owner needs to watch! The U.S. Concealed Carry Association is dedicated to educating Americans about safe, responsible gun ownership. With more than 5 million Americans having purchased their first gun during the turmoil of 2020, this mission has never been more important.

Reality Check Milwaukee

The USCCA held a conference of self-defense and civil rights advocates at the first pop-up Reality Check event on August 6, 2021. Host Katrina Cravy introduced five speakers who shared the touching — and sometimes horrifying — real-life experiences that led them on their journey to responsible gun ownership. This is a must watch video for gun owners and aspiring gun owners!

01:37 Introduction of USCCA author and Concealed Carry Magazine Associate Editor, Beth Alcazar.
02:08 Introduction of women’s advocate and domestic abuse survivor Jennifer Moston.

17:43 USCCA’s Beth Alcazar relives a terrifying situation with an armed gunman at her daughter’s middle school in Alabama.
21:45 Beth Alcazar on diversity: “In 2021, there is no ‘typical’ gun owner!”
22:36 When Kendra Geronimo saw her sex traficker on a TV special, it opened old wounds that led her to be proactive about personal defense.
25:50 Kendra’s advice: Train how you carry every day and make sure your children know the real facts about personal safety.
27:10 Kendra’s closing thoughts: Arm yourself with knowledge and real-world training.
29:06 Jennifer Moston shares her story of surviving domestic abuse and what it’s like counting down the days until her abuser is released from prison.

My grandfather fought in Vietnam, WW2, Korea, and The cold war. He loved guns and he always told me "guns are like keys, they sit there and you don't think about them until you need them" and that always resonated with me

Gun rights are civil rights, no truer words ever spoken!

I learned to shoot with my dad and Older brother when I was maybe 10 or 11. My dad started me off with a Remington 410. Two years later he let me shoot his pistol, taught me all about recoil, backstop assessment, and just about all you can involving firearm safety. When I was 15 he bought an AR15 chambered in 5.56. Me him and my brother went up to a private outside range and spent about 3 hours there that day.

My friend bought a m&p gen 1 when he was 21 along with his CCW, never fired a gun prior to that. He never went to the range, he never dry fired around the house when his wife and child weren't home to simulate break in situations.

My friend lost his life at 24 years old, two years ago, his wife was beaten and their 3 year old son was luckily left unharmed. The burglar was carrying his own pistol, a hi-point 9mm. My friend woke to noise downstairs, and fired shots into darkness, missing every shot and giving away his location. The 36 year old man killed my friend with 6 bullets, tied up and beat his wife, stole his gun, and a bunch of important family items and valuables.

Moral of the story. It's better to have a gun than not to.

But its the best when you know when to use it, and how to properly utilize it as a tool of self defense.

May peace and prosperity be with all of you, and rest in piece Alexzander.

Children should learn to shoot as a sport, and these skills can translate into life-saving skills later in life.

This panel discussion was amazing. I am a firearms instructor and intend to share portions of this panel in my future classes. Thank you panelist and thank you USCCA for orchestrating this panel.

Great discussion. The members that spoke are a great reflection of the responsible gun owners of today.

I agree gun rights are a civil right, and more people need to know that the second amendment is what is used in order to securing those other rights that we take for granted.

I am what most would consider a liberal, but I support the right of the people to keep and bear arms. I train in self defense with and without firearms regularly (fifteen times more often than during my military career.) I believe that being a responsible member of society includes being prepared to face physical threats and defend against those who would deny others the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I was having a conversation with a co-worker, one day, about the guns we own and a new one he had just purchased when another co-worker (female) overheard our conversation and felt the need to come up to us and state how she "hated guns" and would never own one under any circumstance. To which I replied that "I'll bet you would pray for one if you had a person trying to break into your house in the middle of the night". She went on to tell me that she would "absolutely not" and that the badguy could take anything they wanted, as all of it was replaceable. I then asked her "What if it's not your possessions they want, what if they want you or your child? Are you willing to give that up as well? Her mouth dropped open and she turned a lighter shade of pale. I think she got at least some if not all of the point I was trying to make.

If you own a sword everyone thinks its cool. If you own a gun suddenly it becomes "what are you planning to do with that bud"

Cain killed Abel with a rock. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

I love videos like this. You see ordinary people from all walks of life, all with different stories and reasons. With the common factor that they needed to use a firearm.

Thank you so very much for this video. All of the panel members were very articulate in telling their stories and advancing our second amendment rights.

As a former NRA pistol, defensive shooting instructor, I always stressed the greatest weapon you have for your personal defense is the educated, trained, and prepared gray matter between your ears. Prepared to handle a violent situation mentally, understanding this is your life, your families lives, what are you willing to do to protect them. Until you can answer that without equivocation, no second guesses, no maybe I could, but YES I CAN, with confidence. This only comes with training, and competence with your chosen weapon. that means practice, practice, practice.
Safety is number one, practice is next, and both MUST be used in conjunction, consistently. I'm large, combat trained, but I'm also trained in psychological warfare I've talked my way out of more violent situations then most, and drawing a weapon has never been necessary, . Two police officers I trained took my words, and training to heart, they squared off with 6 gang members, over 40 shots fired, they were the only ones to go home. They were prepared mentally, and physically to survive, and go home to their families.

A perfect video and panel on the diversity of firearm owners. I absolutely can’t say enough good things about the USCCA and their very educational concealed carry magazine! Money well spent and keep up the excellent work and I’m proud to be a member! If you have a concealed carry permit you should be a member of the USCCA!
