The #1 most important factor to consider when choosing a game engine Unity vs. Unreal vs. Godot

Social Media relevant to Game Dev -

Hello my name is Axel Cannon and I’m a dumb white guy. I’m not old or new, but middle school fifth grade like junior high. I don’t know much dev logging, but I make stupid games that try. So if you like my stupid videos then you should just subscribe.

Tools:
Unreal Engine: I shoot all the action video in Unreal Engine
Blender: I use Blender for all of the video editing and any modelling or animations that I create myself.
Krita: I use Krita for the graphics cards and thumbnails. I'm really bad at it though so don't blame Krita for my incompetence

I also use a lot of third party assets. Too many to mention them all unless it's required in the license, but this wouldn't be possible without them. However if you think I failed to properly attribute something to you, please let me know so it can be fixed as needed.

It took me like 2 months to jump from 2d to a functional 3d fps on godot and when i finally install unreal the template was 2 clicks away with better graphics, algorithms and what not

Thank You.
Finally, someone said it.
.
I Agreed with every single point you made.
I learn this last year when working on my first real game project with Godot. I get so frustrated that I decided to quit Godot and make my own game engine!
.
Finally, settle on Unreal Engine.

You make a good point about Unreal Engine, but my feeling is that Unreal is tailored for teams of developers while Godot is better suited for a solo or indie dev.

you totally forgot to enumerate those best practices you keep talking about

I wanted to choose unreal engine but my laptop only has 8gb ram so unreal won't work

the thing is that C++ more complicated than C#... Many people would be disagree. Someone may even advice to use blueprints. But i think that using pure blueprints without coding isn't a good idea. I could be probably wrong. But that's the point for me

Unreal Engine is the ultimate.
You may rank the others.

I have a simpler solution, learn unreal and c++, after that, you can pick up unity in a week when you need to. It is not nearly as easy to do the other way around. Especially in the programming part.

The concepts and everything were making a pretty valid point, until it came to the point where it was talking about people recommending certain engines for certain situations. I mean it's sorta obvious that some engines **are** designed better for certain things, but obviously anyone can make anything work in any engine.

The weirdest part for me was the fact that the "common example" of "to do x use engine y" you used was UNITY and 2D... Considering Unity's dismal performance in comparison to Godot when it comes to 2D. Yea you could make it work, but there are also things that are either impossible or paid in Unity 2D vs free and possible in Godot 2D.
