Thomas Nelson is #1 in my book. Crossway a close #2. --- many of the other premiums just aren't cutting it for the cost. GOD Bless

I continue to be very impressed with the Bible’s Thomas Nelson is putting out!

Thanks for the in depth review! I’ve ordered the same leather edition from Christian Book at $92.99

Would be nice if cross references were included in the Apocrypha. Curious if Psalm 151 is included. Otherwise, a nice bible.

I picked this up. It’s really nice to have a large format KJV with Apocrypha in comfort print. There is an older Nelson edition for the New Apostolic Church with the same layout—including the Apocrypha without references.

The original Luther Bible also had the Apocrypha in it as was the tradition for many centuries. <Gut zu lesen> is what Luther said.

Anyone know if typos have been fixed yet?

At Wisdom 5.14 the word 'ungodly' has been replaced by 'Godly.' So where the original KJV read, 'For the hope of the ungodly is like dust that is blown away with the wind, ' this edition has, 'For the hope of the Godly is like dust that is blown away with the wind.'

A similar error occurs at Ecclesiasticus 11.17. Where the original KJV reads, 'The gift of the Lord remaineth with the godly, ' the recent Nelson edition has, 'The gift of the Lord remaineth with the ungodly.'

Great review. Another youtube channel, R. Grant Jones, discovered that this Thomas Nelson edition prints an altered KJV Apocrypha. In addition to adding 3 Maccabees, which wasn't in the KJV, it also alters the translation in other places. Maybe not a deal-breaker for all, but something odd that's worth noting.

That layout is very visually appealing! An interesting omission with no concordance.

Hello. I'm not sure if you have already done this, but could you provide a comparison of Bibles that contain the apocrypha? They can get a bit pricey, and it would be nice to know what you're getting before purchasing. Thanks.

Does anyone know if they make this with a wide margin? If so, it would be my perfect bible rebind candidate.

Didn’t think you’d be reviewing bibles with the apochrapha now…..

I bought this particular edition precisely because it has the Deuterocanonicals. As an Episcopalian, that makes me happy. I really wish the references were included in the Deuterocanonicals and integrated with the rest of the Bible. That would be very helpful.

This edition contains 3 Maccabees, which is downright bizarre. The 1611 edition contained only the first two books of Maccabees. Its inclusion makes it more useful for Eastern Orthodox Christians (who like the King James Version for its traditional language and its more-or-less Byzantine Text New Testament), but it makes it less authentic as a KJV.

If you like literal Bibles, get a Catholic Bible.
Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.
[John 6:54]
