TLDR: Basically, as the cell divides, the cell volume becomes smaller (keep in mind that RBC are the smallest ones out there! So they NEED to become smaller)...with microcytic anemia, they divide too many times (they become TOO SMALL). This is because the cell divides based on Hb CONCENTRATION. If there is not a lot of Hb around...the cell needs to become smaller in volume to get to the same concentration!

Is it fatal?

I'm having all the symptoms. Pale skin, fatigue, chest pain, cold hands and feet, shortness of breath. Rapid heart beat and headaches. I'm scared. 😔

This is brilliant, why couldn't my professors simply break down the basic pathophysiology of these anemias like this?

What does it mean when MCV is less than 80 but Hb and Hct are normal?

My MCV, MCH and hemoglobin is low. My iron levels are normal and my RDW is high. What could be the reason?

What about MCH?
My MCV is 83, hemoglobin is 13.4 and hematocrit is 42.9, but my MCH is 25.9 which is just below the range.

Question, what could be the reason for mycrocitic anemia with high RBC?

Dr!!! I did not understand something, mmm normally, we have this decrease in size from the blasts to fully mature erythrocytes, because of the successive cell divisions, but what's specific in iron deficiency? Is that depletion of iron inhibits the synthesis of globin? Is iron essential for the stimulation of enzymes that triggers the transcription process of Hb?

What if the MCV= 74.5 and the iron is normal !!!
