Combat is a crucial part of the experience for the vast, vast majority of games, but creating a fun, mechanically tight, and responsive combat system is easier said than done.

That said, quite a lot of games do just that, crafting a web of mechanics that, put together, make the simple act of engaging in duels with enemies an absolute treat. Here, we're going to talk about a few such games.

Mad Max's combat was amazing! It was so satisfying doing wrestling moves on enemies...

X-men Origins: Wolverine combat is also very fun and satisfying. Slicing guys in half never gets old. It definitely fulfilled the Wolverine fantasy. Bourne Conspiracy's hand to hand combat is also pretty fun. The boss fights are like 5 minute slobber knockers where you fight to the death in very cinematic fashion. It's probably the best thing about the game.

How Nioh 2 didn't make this list is beyond me. It has some of the best combat in a game, especially since it has so many weapons. I think it may have the best combat in any game I've played.

Mad max was awesome I'd love to see avalanche studios make either a Punisher game

Any game with the "Arkham free flow" just can't go wrong. It's disappointing that games like Assassin's Creed are opting for the Dark Souls, "shoulder button/lock on" setup.

For me it's the witcher 3, the way geralt slice up human enemies is so satisfying.

Shadow of mordor was real good (for me at least). It is like mad max but more reactive

Warrior within's free form fighting will always be one of my favorites. It amazes me how many people hated the game. I wish more people enjoyed it like I did.

Tales Of Arise has one of the most frantic and addictive combat I’ve seen in a jrpg in years

I’d add Returnal and Rage 2 to this list. Rage 2’s story was short and weird but I mostly just ran around that world forever finding things, upgrade armor and weapons, vehicles, and enhancements. Gunplay is so satisfying and smooth.

Man was control a great game. Downloaded think it looked cool and wasn’t expecting to pick up one of my favourites. The lore is so well put together while not making much concrete at the same time.

You could make 5 parts to a video like this... God of War, Bat man, Sleeping Dogs, Demon Soul's, Shadow of Mordor, AC Valhalla, Infamous, Xmen origins Wolverine...The list goes on and on. Great video though keep them coming! 👍

Serious Sam. I may be old school, but mowing down a hoard of kleers with a cannon ball never gets old.
