Fresh potatoes from the garden are truly special. Nothing like the potatoes that have sat in the market for however long.

Last year, I made towers out of chicken wire and grew the potatoes in them. Worked great! This year I will do the same, but use straw for hilling instead of soil. Cheers!

"You can't beat a perfect potato"

Yes you can, that's how you end up with perfect mash.

Really love your videos. For the first time I have successfully grown spinach. So satisfying walking out in the evening, cutting the leaves, giving them a good rinse and steaming them over boiled potatoes or rice for a few minutes. Delicious!! Without your videos it would just have been another good idea that I never got around to. Your videos are so informative, never boring, enthusiastic and so practical.
Watched your kale and tomato videos and also for the first time I planted kale and tomatoes from seed. Have just planted the kale seedlings out into the garden amongst my flowers!! Tomato plants are going to get planted out tomorrow when hopefully the heatwave is over. Been > 30 degrees in Johannesburg for the past week. Thank yo so much.

Checking back in with a potato harvest report. This year I tried hilling with straw instead of soil. The harvest was minimal, although what I did get is healthy looking taters. Next year I will go back to using soil for banking. Live-n-learn!
Happy harvest, all!

To prevent white rot, place a light scattering of pine needles in the row at planting.

Hi, I just use supermarket potatoes and they always chit naturally while sitting in the bag or storage container. When I come to use them for meals, I cut an extra 2cm below the chit and use the rest of the potato in my meal as normal. All the potato peelings and the chitted cuts all go into planting. I get several kilos of potato harvest every week between July and December! And I don't buy a single "seed" potato!

These videos hold up very well. All still good and true information. It's interesting to see how methods develop and change over time!
