I grow potatoes last year like this! The best part is digging them out on harvest day! Digging for gold

That’s why I love growing potatoes! They are the gift that keeps on giving, they are easy to grow and yield substantial amounts of food that keeps well! Everyone should try it out!

I did it once to prove a point to my 16YO son. We had a potato grow roots in the pantry and he was confused as to what was happening. I told him that it was a plant and it was trying to grow. He didn't believe me! 🤣
So I grew the potato out on the back patio. We got about eight small potatoes out of that little plant when we harvested. 😁

We Asian eat rice, so I save my 50 pounds rice bags to grow potatoes. I harvest a lots of potatoes.
First, I rolled the bags down 2/3 of the bags. When the plants grew I rolled the bags up, added in more dirt. More roots more tubers, more potatoes.
In Fall when the plants die down. Put the bags into the wheel barrel, cut the bags from top to bottom to harvest the potatoes. Dump the dirt into the garden, sort the potatoes and eat. Fresh potatoes are so good!

If you keep using the best potatoes (by whichever measure you prefer) for the next generation again and again, you’ll get potatoes that are better suited for not only your preferences but also your environment.

I had a pup who loved stealing potatoes from our pantry. We kept them at the bottom so when ever the door was left open, she would help herself. I’ll never forget the day when my family moved our couches from the living room to clean our carpets. Burrowed under were a crop full of half eaten potatoes in various stages of regrowth.
This video reminded me of her… Miss you girl. 🥔🥔🥔

What I like is, even if you missed any potatoes when you harvest them. It will come up again next year.

Yup, my Irish ex father in-law showed me how to do it. And at the time I was pregnant with my second child. I had a big garden, and I did it all by myself. 💪🤗

I accidentally grew potatoes this year, I threw some with eyes on them out in my compost pile and when my husband moved some of the compost around our garden multiple potato plants just started popping up, so we got a ton of accident potatoes

Your few seconds of talking, taught me more about growing potatoes than all the tutorials I've watched... and there are many.

My aunt used to use the kids old swimming pools. She had her husband drill a few holes in the bottom, threw in some straw, emptied a bag of soil on top. Place the potatoes in. And had another bag of soil on top. As they grow, just add more soil. When you're ready to harvest just dump over the pool. No digging. I like the laundry basket idea better. Much easier to deal with.

Do not place your potatoes 🥔 with onions 🧅 as it’ll help it grow roots. Onions produce a high level of ethylene gas, which will cause potatoes to ripen — and go bad — before you're ready to use them. However, those spuds aren't completely innocent, either; potatoes' high moisture content can cause onions to liquefy and leak.

Yes. We had a vegetable farm. At the end of the season my dad cut up leftovers so each piece had an eye. That was our potato plants next season. We froze or canned most of our vegetables to last until next season.
It was joy to be hungry and dig up a small potato or pick a tomato and dust it off and eat it warm.

I did last year but I gave up because I didn't think anything was growing. I pulled the out and had 4 tiny potatoes and a fully grown one. Well, I kept them in my pantry and they sprouted this year. They are growing as I type this along with a bunch more. Can't wait to eat potatoes that I grew myself 😊

Lots of sprouts wow!! I planted Yellow Potatoes in 2 cardboard boxes. I harvested them yesterday. The first box harvest is uploaded to my channel. I didn't cut the potatoes. I think I still did okay. I will definitely plant them again. Now, I am getting ready to plant Sweet Potato Slips and Russet Potatoes. Love the laundry basket idea.😊

If it's anybody's first time growing potatoes in their yard... Get ready to find new potato plants popping up on their own for the next few years.

We have done this for many years. Another fun thing to grow is sweet potatoes. Just fill the basket with dirt before you plant. The vines are amazing as edible greens or decoration.
