3:48 - “the Air is far more portable, weighs a lot less”. Come on, man... they have the same depth and width, the weight difference is about 110 grams. The Air is thicker at its thickest point.

I'm pretty sure the size, as well as the weight especially, is much closer than this review makes it seem. The 2020 macbook pro weighs 3.1 pounds, where the 2020 macbook air weighs 2.8 pounds. The Pro is .61 inches thick, where the air is 0.63 inches at the thickest and 0.16 inches at the thinnest. Other than that, all other dimensions are the same, so it's unfair to portray the pro as so much bulkier, when that is not really the case.

I‘m waiting desperately for a comparison video of the MBA and MBP which covers the important stuff properly. But all youtubers are just like “normal people go Air, pros go pro“. This video is just in line with that.

I don’t need a video for that simple advice. I want details!
MBA i5 10th gen Y series with DDR4 against MBP i5 8th gen U series with DDR3. What’s the difference? Is the MBA capable of getting this power on point due to thermal issues or not? Would the MBP with last years tech actually be the better option concerning being future proof, no noise working while doing office tasks, how about multitasking and stuff like that. I‘m about to spend like 1500€ thus such simple advice doesn’t do it for me.

You didn't mention the Macbook air heat management issues when performing intensive tasks and exaggerated the size difference between the two models.

As a college student, I ended up choosing the MacBook Pro over the MacBook air only because I wanted to future-proof my laptop for at least 5 years while I finished my doctorate program. I figured the laptop would ultimately slow over time with newer updates and with wear so I figured that starting at a higher speed will ultimately be better. So last night while doing a research paper in Word and having multiple tabs open, Spotify app playing in the background, and using my iPad pro as a separate monitor, you could def hear the fans go off. however, they will turn on for a few minutes and then turn off. I think having bought the MacBook air would have been troublesome because the processor might have been slightly overworked. I def did not notice any slow down in speeds. Tho I only chose the baseline model for MacBook pro, I am very happy with my purchase.

I currently just got the MacBook Air less then an hour ago, I love it so far, no over heating like everyone says there is. I got the 8gb ram, intel core i5, and 512gb ssd.

Appreciate your work but please use tables with names when you are comparing things. Was pretty messy and not easy too follow.

I returned my MacBook Air and I just got the new 10th gen MacBook Pro, because I always work with 7/10 open tabs (no video playback, just browsing) and although I had the 16GB of RAM, the Air was always at 212 F (100 C). It was uncomfortable because of the heat dissipating from the back of the Mac on my lap and the loud but useless fans.
I tried some photo editing with photoshop and it was okay, but I also tried Final Cut Pro with 4K 30 fps drone footage and it’s just a no no.

It always comes down to:

1. What’s your budget? Max you can or willing to spend?

2. What will you use it for?

3. How long do you roughly think you will keep it for?

I don’t agree, upgrading the Air i5, i7 would suggest you’re doing that to preform heavier work. If that’s the case it will over heat, because it’s not designed for that type of work. If you’re doing lighter work and you want to upgrade fine.
I think you should look at what the machine is designed for. I think it’s misleading with these upgrades for the air, it’s not built for “consistent” heavier work. If you’re doing photo editing, video now and then the base Pro is still a good machine, and the upper 13 & 16 gives you options if you’re workload is at the higher end.

I honestly don’t think I would go with the MBA because of the thermal issues, if it had the fan connected to the cpu I would say definitely but that is not the case here.

I think you missed the point man. People are concerned with future proofing since you cannot upgrade anything. The base MBA comes with a dual core in 2020. People will most likely look into the i5 model and then with that upgrade it puts you 200 dollars from the pro. With the ram upgrade between the MBP and the MBA, the price difference is only 100 dollars. The weight is not that much different, but some people really prefer the wedge shape for typing.

I have been using this laptop for 2 weeks now. Just as you open the lid, the MBP does not respond i.e. the trackpad and the keyboard doesn't work for about 20-30 seconds. I have installed the latest Mac OS Catalina 10.15.6, reinstalled the software, logged in as a new user, done with the safe boot, reset NVRAM and SMC also. Nothing seems to work. I have contacted apple also regarding the same, they have told me to get the device to the nearest service centre. I am really annoyed now, because I spent a lot of money in this laptop. I have a 6 year old MBA, that laptop has never had any problem so far even with the latest MacOS.

How does the i5 MacBook Air stack up to base MacBook Pro

my macbook air ( i3 dualcore ) is my absolute fave and I was advised not to upgrade to i5 just because they told me it overheats. My i3 has been amazing

Got the Pro 1TB model on order, but thinking of cancelling and getting the Air, as I've planning on buying an iMac this year.
