How to Clean EGR Valve // Honda CRV, HRV, Civic R18A1 R20A1

Hi Viewers, in this episode i will be performing on how to disassemble and clean the EGR valve on this Honda CRV with engine code R18A1 & R20a1. Other model of vehicle may differs .
Tools needed:
Racthet with extension
12mm drive socket
RTV Permatex Sealant (In this video i will reuse my old EGR valve gasket)
Carbon cleaner of your own preference
Brush
Paper towel
Additional Note : It would be even better if you have a torque wrench and set to 16ft-lb to retighten the bolts & Use new replacement EGR valve gasket. But if you don’t it is fine to use just RTV sealant when re-assemble.
Please do this at your own risk . I will not held any responsible over any damages that can occurs while doing this task.

Few important hints 1. Disconnect battery terminals to avoid any electrical shortage 2.Get a new EGR valve gasket from a part store for less than couple of bucks. 3. Clean old gasket residues between EGR valve and its housing surfaces with a plastic knife or chemical to get a good seal. 4. You may need to vacuum those two bottom holes after cleaning if there was high carbon build up.

The Honda garage has no clue to why my engine starts using way more fuel without any significant idication.

Disconnect connector prior to loosen bolts
Use gloves when cleaning parts, those cleaners will penetrate your skin

Was it not necessary to disconnect the negative battery terminal, as in the throttle body cleaning video ? And why is the RTV gasket-maker required only on the one side of the gasket and not on the other ? Good video...I should do this to my 2007 CR-V with 180, 000 miles although gas mileage is still 27-30 mpg on highway, as it has always been.

i have hrv 2020 what is thr torque spec on the bolts why need to diconect terminal battery? when doing this you already unplug the connector? how many miles to start when doing this?does this egr gets damage? need to be replaces?

Wah saya mau coba juga nanti di City GD8 2006 saya bersiin EGR ny. Klo Jazz/City GD3/8 tahun 2003-2005 Belum ada EGR Valve mungkin Msh Euro1 2006 udh Euro2

U should have pulled the black spring knob with some nose pliers and sprayed in thier aswell.i just did this yesterday and light went away by cleaning it good.

Hi mate .recently had change my fuel injector of my Honda CR-V R2A20 (just calendar 1-2)it is right now .

Any ideas on what that little black hose on the EGR housing is called? it's the one that goes from the EGR housing back towards the throttle body? I think it carries coolant. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IT'S CALLED LOL
