I went on a service trip to Uganda and there were a few teachers in our group that thought that their education would be something they could share with teachers over there. When they found out that teachers used corporal punishment they went on a lecture about how "kids just act out when they have feelings, thoughts, and emotions that they don't know how to express. If you just sit down and talk to the kids, you'll be able to sort out these issues and you should never have to touch a child. One of the teachers very humbly and sincerely asks "what do you do in your schools when the kids pull out knives and try to kill each other?"
