No check valve? Nevermind, this is the model with a built in check

I’m no plumber but I think this is so the water and sediments in the bottom of the tank get recirculated better because the outgoing is in the top of the tank. This is Why tanks always get sediment build up if u don’t have these. I’m guessing.

Hey I’m in the HVAC field 2nd year into working in the actual field… never seen a pump on a water heater like this even. I’ve seen it when theirs multiple zones but not like this definitely never on the things drain but I’m also out here in Boston, MA, and everywhere’s different. just curious what situation calls for this being added and would love to hear it from the installer 😊 (no sarcasm I’m truly interested lol)

Finally someone who knows how to install a pump

I also install my recirculating lines to the bottom of the tank with dual isolation valves to facilitate future pump replacement, only difference Is I always put a swing check valve for good measure….

Oh the same work of the "expansion tank", thanks for the advice btw. Although now my question is, why would you use a water recirculation pump? To have hot water in the moment you open a water tap?

Attaching the pipe this low would mean sediment going up the reciculation pipe instead of simply settling at the bottom. Also, descaling this set up would not be fun.

Why are you installing it on the drain valve and not the top of the tank?

Manufacturers want the return brought into the top of the tank now. Into the cold line with proper checkvalves

Is it code in your area to strap the water heater like that? Haven’t seen it before

The ones I install go directly on the hot feed of water heater…

Clean work👍🏽. I of course would do it a bit different😁 but nonetheless, clean work.

I've never hooked up one to a drain, always on the cold feed with check valves, , but hey I'm old, don't even own a press, , just a b tank

Cercirculation pump? My 40 gal NG water heater doesn't have any fancy crap like that. The only update when I replace it with a new one soon will be to add a sediment trap (easy) because that's code now here in TX. If more people would become DIYers they would save so much money. Plumbers charge an arm and a leg.

Did you install a dial electric nipple first is that needed?

Wouldn't this significantly raise an electric bill? Seems like the hot water heater would run more along with the new pump.?

I love your videos, but you needed a level on that copper, and to anyone who is talking about THE CHECK VALVE, grundfos pumps typically have them in the box, I know this auto recirc pump has one as I install these frequently
