We describe post-operative care after your kidney stone surgery, lithotripsy. Going over the diet, activity, and what to expect in terms of pain and discomfort.

Shockwave lithotripsy therapy for kidney stones can sometimes be very effective for treating kidney stones.

It is important to know that you will have to pass the stones afterwards once they break up into small pieces.

I just had the lithotripsy 2 days ago for a 6mm stone stuck in my ureter (mo stent). 1:36 1:36 1:36 I was under anesthesia. I peed immediately with no pain or blood. Mild cramping from time to time, but nothing horrible. No bruising. The worst part has been recovering from the anesthesia. Slept for 2 days. I’ll go back in another week for a follow up X-ray.

I strained my urine & never found stones, but now 5 weeks later, I'm in pain in my back & both kidneys where I had the treatment.

I had a stent put in earlier this week, which has been a little uncomfortable but no pain. I didn’t have any pain from the stone, only bloody urine. There is a 5.5mm stone stuck in my urethra, another one that size in the kidney, and a larger one in the other kidney. I’m scheduled for shock wave lithotripsy in 3 weeks on one kidney and laser blasting on the other. All these posted comments about pain have me concerned!

Why do some patients wake up with a stent while others do not after going through a shockwave therapy ?

When do the stones pass? Do they pass while you have the stint in or after is removed?

The hospitals that I contacted, don't do any Anesthesia, not even local; which is no prob for me. But they said that pre-operation it's mandatoy to do a blood withdrawal and coagulation test. I don't understand why that is, since the procedure doesn't require cutting, nor anesthesia. Is the blood test really mandatory?
