My mom went through it. It was very difficult for 6 months with many defficiency like calcium, potassium and magnesium. She stayed in only in hospital for 1 month, however after 7 months everything is going good, we filmed many videos in the process to keep her entertained and create memories but now she goes to work and feels very normal. Don't worry, it will be fine for you.

I just had surgery Aug 4th 2020. I don't do good with pain so nothing was minor about it. It felt like I was in a gang fight and the rivals cut my throat. Thank goodness for the anesthetics. 2 Days later my neck is still swollen sore my throat is scratchy and I'm having pain in my ears and the most horrible thing is when I have the cough. The first day was hard to swallow anything and a lot of pain. I'm eating pretty good long as it's in small bites It does get better everyday. I was able to manage my pain just using Tylenol and ibuprofen

My thyroid was slightly enlarged which made the procedure take much longer. Being straight forward here when I woke up after it was so unpleasant. Like strep throat x3 and I couldn’t speak. Was on a calcium drip for 10 days in the hospital. I’m out now and I’m just figuring out the right doses of TSH replacement meds. I also can only speak at a whisper and it’s been 2.5 weeks. The procedure overall sucked but I’m on the road to recovery now. Hopefully my voice comes back after another month.

I had mine removed in two operations as the first side was found to have thyroid cancer. After the first operation I was shocked at the sight of the staples (was like twenty years ago) and the bruising around my neck. My voice box had shut on that side and I could hardly talk. My neck could hardly turn. My blood at that time was quick at healing and when they pulled the drain out it winded me. The second op I woke up with a vicar looking at me! I said has it all gone wrong and he was like no I am just visiting. Anyway that second op knocked my vocal cords back into shape somehow and I could talk better each day that went by. REally good as I had been worned if my other vocal cord froze I would of needed a hole in my throat to breath. I had to have radio active iodine afterwards. I put on load of weight. I now think it might of been water retention. When they pulled out the drain on the second op the nurse cut the stitch and then said - omg Ive cut the wrong stitch - sit still!! Then she was like oh I havent its all ok!!! Well thanks. I now have a yearly check up ... a blood tumor marker test. Big neck scar ie 22 stitches. Voice isnt as before

Well I made some phone calls this morning, I was sitting in here trying to exhale, which wasn't a good one, I'm like this is getting crazy trying to handle all this by myself
