These Discord Features will be Controversial...

Two experimental Discord features, message forwarding and recently online, are going to spark outrage and controversy. But is this hoopla even worth caring about? Well, it will change the behavior of those chronically online Discord moderators.

Will it encourage people to go outside? no.... lol idk what you were thinking. These two experimental Discord features will probably lead to more toxicity on Discord.

Stalking to see when your friend goes offline after they ignore your DM, made easier with the Recently Online feature. And using Discord's built in snitch button (message forwarding) you can forward messages out of context and cause even more drama.

Bro, I swear, if they add that cringe 'seen' or 'read' feature... I'm deleting Discord.

A living nightmare for people who can’t say “no”

Discord is becoming WhatsApp but public. Knowing the content that is Discord, it's up for a bad time.

The way to fix the recently online thing is literally just making it either
1. favourited friends only
2. friends only
3. toggleable on who can see it
4. if your DMs are closed people cant see it unless they're (see step 2)

can't wait for the "online 13 years ago" meme to happen again

if discord adds recently online, they should make it toggleable, so you can choose just like how you can choose to act offline or not.

For anyone who needs to know, Don't respond to the UTTP bot. Youtube won't ban them quickly if you respond to them, though this one seemed a bit more aggressive than the other so they may ban them anyways for the comments it's making. But the less you respond to them the quicker they will be banned. Just report for spam and hide from your channel, and also report the bot from their page. This way they would also not be able to comment on your comment with the spamming as well.

How to avoid leaking your *private* information: DONT USE DISCORD

I have had my status set to invisible for as long as I can remember. It's one of the best features Discord has ever added.

Invisible status is actually amazing, even before this. People usually wait until someone is online to message them but if you're in a schrodinger-like perpetual state of neither offline nor online until observed in vc or typing, people will just message you when they need to message you and you can respond when you actually have the time to look at discord instead of people trying to snipe your online time.

The point of message forwarding isn't to "save evidence" of something, or to "prove" that someone sent a message. It may sound crazy, but the point is to forward a message. For example, someone may post a step by step tutorial with links and text formatting in a discord group. Screenshotting doesn't let the viewer click links, it's not at all the same thing. It's a basic function of every messaging app, i cant believe people are complaining about it

Forwarding is a feature in Telegram, so is last seen online. Discord just copying homework

The Recently Online feature has already existed on Steam for like years upon years, maybe just make an option to disable the feature idk who cares anyway lol

They need to fix their report system I literally reported someone for saying horrible things like r#pe and It’s been a month they still aren’t banned. . but when my friend jokes about being 11, she got banned in the matter of five hours

The recently online feature would be nice for friends only, not random people. Steam, BattleNET, and almost any other gaming platform already has this in some capacity and I’ve never really heard of it causing drama.

As someone who uses Telegram pretty actively, this isn’t really an issue unless they implement it poorly. The “last online” feature is on a lot of different platforms and hasn’t really been much of an issue on those platforms. The forwarding could be an issue, but I doubt it would be if the forwarded messages are clearly marked, and if people use just a bit of common sense (probably the most unbelievable part out of all of this) to realize that they aren’t getting every bit of context, then it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

"how to fix this? Just be invisible 24/7!"
if the fix to a problematic added feature is to not use preexisting features (online/dnd/idle status buttons) then there's something wrong with the added feature.

Having people know when I was last online just sounds like pure anxiety fuel to me. Well, not that it affects me anyway since I'm already always offline because I hate that otherwise people can know when I'm on my phone or on my PC.
