How to plot a route on Google Maps and Navigate it on a Garmin Device

This video describes step by step how to plot a route in Google maps, transfer it to your Garmin device and then navigate it.
Correction. At 6:55 this is not a glitch, the two points are the start point and the end point of the route. Because the titles are so long they look the same so I thought this was a glitch.

If your route is just showing a straight line from A to B make sure your GPS is plugged in to the computer. One the GPS is plugged in Basecamp will load the detailed map from the device. To check that you are using the detailed map click *View **---**> Tool Bars --> Map Products.* This will show a menu showing the map that you are currently using. If it says *Global Map* then that is the wrong map and you need to plug the GPS in. The detailed map name usually starts with *City Navigator...*. For reference the *Global Map* that comes with Basecamp is just so that when you boot it up it doesn't show a blank screen. The *Global Map* is pretty useless for doing any routing or navigation.

Very helpful indeed, especially if there are no landmarks in the area. I am now able to plot the boundaries of a project site in the middle of "nowhere", transfer to my Garmin Nuvi, drive there and make sure the activities are kept within the boundaries. Excellent!!

I had every expectation that this would work for me. Everything, step by step from your video was excellent until the final stage of importing the route and allowing my Garmin Nuvi 775 to calculate the route. Once the route was on screen, it was clear that it had changed from my intended plotted route. I am going to try this again just to be sure the first time wasn't a fluke. I note that you have a number of points in your route, I had only start and finish but my original was the way I wanted to go.
