A Complete Beginners Guide to DayZ... (PC/PS4/Xbox)

With DayZ now being available on the Xbox game pass, as well as sales on PC & PS4, numbers are soaring and so I've created a guide that should give all new players something of a foundation to get them started in-game.

It might seem overwhelming at first, and it is true that DayZ has a considerable learning curve - but it's worth it in the end!

I found a dude w a glow stick in the middle of nowhere in the dark. I was doing the same and when we interacted, I told him I could give him my loot since I was dying from infection and hunger. He gave me food and then went to a house. I told him that I might as well give him my knives since I was dying and he only had a pan. He committed suicide with the knife I gave him smh. RIP bro

Took me a few attempts but I’ve come to realise you can’t trust any other survivors on dayz... no matter how friendly they are being. You turn your back and your a dead man. Certainly learned the hard way

The best advice I can give. Stick to community servers on console. The loot pool on official servers has been nerfed into the ground. No point in even playing them, you will travel from the coast to NWAF to Tisy and find nothing better than standard rifles and the occasional vaiga. As for the experience, do not give up when you starve to death or dehydrate when you first start playing, you will die and you will die a lot. But, once you start learning the map, how to recognize where you are, the grind and build up gives you the most satisfying feeling out of any game I’ve ever played even if the game is laggy and has endless amounts of bugs. Most fun I’ve had playing a game in a long time.

I got back on this game after months today and I couldn't find any food or anything as everything was looted (this happened 3 times in a row) and then night falls. I find a train trailer and hid in there and somebody found me... befriended me and brought me back to a house where he tortured me with his friends and killed me on spot

My first game I got clothes, some water and I was looking for a knife to open cans at night, I hear a guy running so I announced my presence, he had a gun but just looked at me said "hmm" and walked off, never saw him again.

Thanks for the rundown. I don't get a whole lot of game time, and when I do, it's late in the evenings prior to bed time, dad life. The little time I do get, I spend spawning and dying of hunger over and over again. This should help some. Thanks again.

I like how real it is. Like spreading a cold if your with each other, just feels so real and I love it. Just bought the game on PS4 for $26 on sale so I think I’ll really enjoy it.

Literally used to grind videos of this game before it became it's own stand alone game, watched video after video for years, just recently got recommended a dayz video so I decided to watch it... fast forward a week and I've probably watched 100+ dayz videos, bought the game for the first time, entered in beginner tips and tricks in the search while I'm loading up the game for the first time in my life, stumble across this video, watch it all the way through and assume you're a huge youtuber because of the layout and advice of this video and the way you speak in the video, look and see you're not some massive channel (YET!) and am shocked at how much I just learned from this short and quick video! You definitely have taught me more in this 10 min video than any of the thousands of videos I've watched in the last 8 years lol. Thank you for this! I'm about to try and figure this game out properly for the first time, can't wait to rage lol.

Also, when I click the red play button (I'm on PC btw) when I open the game, what does that do? Does it send me to a private singleplayer game? I'm confused on how to actually play and where to even go? Thank you!
