What is this channel, and what kind of videos am I going to be making?

SimonOxfPhys is evolving, and I want you guys to be aware of what changes are happening. Tbh most of what I talk about will hardly be news if you follow my videos regularly, but I wanted to have a video that summed up my mission statement. It was also a chance for me to play around with my new toys :)

---------- II ----------

I am Simon, a third year PhD candidate at the University of Exeter. I upload videos on bits of science which are relevant to what I do, and sometimes just because they're really cool.

Thanks to Vlogbrothers for their sponsorship of this video. Money from the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck contributed to equipment used in this video.

That's why I like your videos. You don't talk about only one theme, the variety of subjetcts is fanastic and the way you put the themes together is amazing. Keep making videos.

I can't help but notice how nice you speak, very polite and organized language! I am a new subscriber. I am an undergrad physics student in Michigan State university and I am very happy to find a channel like yours. Looking forward to it, good luck.

I really like your idea about a hybrid channel, because it makes it quite interesting what kind of video you will post next.
The new content you talked about sounds really great, I'm looking forward toward the one about sustainable life as a student. It's a topic I regulary discuss with my friends at uni

Definitely looking forward to seeing and hearing what type of content you will be sharing in the future. Your field is very different from my field, but that makes it just all the more interesting. Great recording and editing skills. Great job so far!

Simon, I completely understand your assertion that this is your channel and you can make whatever videos you like. I've been a subscriber for a while now following research on Oxbridge life, with a focus on the science routes available. I was very pleased when you branched out and made more series. Well done. On the topic of your scientific research area I am also interested in hearing some of the more dissenting views of climate change/global warming/denialists and how someone like yourself handles their voice on what I see as being the fringes of any debate. I have heard many responses to dissenters; such like... look who is funding their research; but very few factual debates against the evidence a dissenter puts forward. My viewing habits for your channel are that I like to watch in batches, hardly ever comment, and am impressed with your presentational style overall. I'm an older generation and can certainly appreciate a lecture style presentation. Graphics are always cool though.Carry On my good man.

Great channel, found your sixty seconds video about your Phd and came here. I would like to do amateur work in atmospheric science. Willing to purchase software, and work hard. Would like to get access to data available to the public, and tweek models with software until the math churns out numbers approximating the data. Willing to learn the math required, but wants to go right to unpaid work and not get a degree. I understand from a biographical book about Einstein, that the work is often trying to find a needle in the haystack. I understand some people can work the haystack faster, but I have twenty four hours a day free time, not looking for monetary compensation or fame, and would only speak up if the needle is found. Copernicus had to do all calculations by hand, and had to spend a lifetime. I am expecting to change formulas by hand, models or statistics, until finding the balance in the data. College loan applications make you do the same, but with simple formulas. In law, there is a concordance website where an amateur researcher can contribute, and I was approached by a person with a Masters Degree who wanted to enlist me. Looking for the same approach, except research with mathematics.Atmospheric science is my first choice. I have all the time in the world, and have a passion to work with math. Would you direct me to the right material, and software, please?

"Science through the filter of Simon" - that should be your tagline!

So excited to have stumbled upon you. I'm reading Bill Bryson's a Short History of Nearly Everything and now I want to learn ALL THE THINGS about astrophysics. :)

I have literally been watching since your very first video which was before i even started sixthform. I had an ambition to go to Oxbridge back then but with my GCSE's being mostly B's my teachers told me i would most likely not perform very well at A level predicting me B's and C's. However, i did manage to get A*AB in History, Biology and Maths (the B will forever haunt me), your channel was a huge source of both motivation and inspiration and helped me achieve those grades. Funnily enough i didnt even end up applying to Oxbridge but i will always believe if you aim extremely high you will always at least perform well. Thanks for the content!
