Today we're breaking down 3 lessons I learned while filming a photography course designed for beginners. This is the first time we've ever created an educational resource for beginners and it was SO MUCH harder than I expected! But I think the lessons I learned along the way are super valuable to anyone just getting started on their photography journey!

Check out our 3 FREE webinars! These free classes would be a great starting point for you and to help gauge whether or not you are ready for our courses!

Practical vs Technical is something I've personally dealt with teaching a natucial captain's course. I used to teach the technical side only but my students were struggling to apply the technical to practical. So now I start with practical then explain whats going on in the technical part. Then I circle back to practical again. This helped my students understand the material more deeply. So when an issue came up while skippering a boat or ship, they could use the technical parts to come up with a solution that works and then apply it to the practice. Creating safe operations of a vessel. I feel confident that my captains have the tools to safely get passengers or cargo from point A to point B.

After a real struggle for over two years of really trying to learn and feeling really dumb, it finally clicked in my head a few days ago about how AV priority mode works and I was able to shoot my kids portraits in it with some success. I feel like my brain is the wild west and I don't know much yet about any of the more manual settings, but I have what I think is the potential for greatness because I really have an ingrained eye of what looks good and have been educating the creative side of photography with hundreds of hours of practical tutorials on YouTube each of the past three years. Plus I grew up with a dad who loves photography so I have seen really good photographs my whole life. I have been practicing different types of photography and also editing for 18mo. and taught a few teen classes about how to take better looking pictures. I think your course might actually be what I've been looking for for so long, being really non technical it's hard to find anyone who teaches the way you are describing. I thought of 'the school of photography' course because the reviews seemed to be saying that no one could have them understand till him, but I think the few videos I've seen of yours I really relate to the way you explain things.

It's 1am in my part of the world and hubby's sleeping next to me so had the volume turned down but definitely wanted to watch your new video. Watched it all with subtitles still as awesome 👌 thinking of buying your course tomorrow you've definitely caught my interest and definitely can do with more tips and basic foundations to help keep improving. Thanks for just being you! 👍

I can show you a pretty sunset and you will appreciate it. Then I can tell you that the light is being filtered through pollution and stretched further toward the infrared, and thus you see a predominately red light at sunset and you will have a deeper understanding of the pretty sunset. The latter is not necessary to the former, but physicists will tell you that they feel nothing but awe in the presence of the sunset.

By the way, the inverse square law simply means that the amount of light falling on a subject is an inverse square of the distance from the source of light. Ergo, let's say there are 16 photons falling on a subject right next to the source. As the subject moves one unit away from the source the number of photons falls to 4.

The best way to learn Photography is to buy a 35mm range finder camera, 50mm lens, and no light meter. Master that before moving into digital.
