I just switched to Capture One. Not only is it a more powerful tool, it runs much faster, so I no longer need to buy a new computer!

The capture one sharpening is way better than lightroom. But for some reason inside capture one it does not display it well. Also I find CO default sharpening settings not to be optimal for me. When sharpening try setting Amount to 25-50%, Radius to about 10-20 % and halo suppression to about 50-80% and then compare the outputted files between LR and Co in an image editor. You should see that CO destroys LR. I used LR for years and have used CO for a couple of years. The difference in image quality when you know how to use it is quite something.

The colour editor is superb. You can select a colour range and even part of the saturation range for that colour. then you can create a later mask from that selection it and use nearly all of the other adjustments on your selected colour with this new layer. And of course you can wipe away what you don't want.

And above all there is the speed! When you have to edit many files CO you can just tear through them with CO.

Like others, I'd be interested in a LR / ON-1 comparison. I've been using ON-1 2019 for a couple of weeks: very impressed. Blends all the more important LR/Photoshop photo processing and cataloguing features into a single non-destructive interface. I use Affinity Photo for other actions such as making collages etc (focus stacking also seems better there). I use the free Faststone viewer for quickly scanning though images (excellent)

At 5:00, you can add whatever tools you want to each tab. No swapping.

Capture one is good! I made the switch after using lightroom for YEARS. and after an hour with Capture one I was sold.

The biggest thing for me, was the Layers. You can adjust EVERYTHING in capture one when you make a mask and make adjustments. whereas lightroom you are pretty limited with adjustments on masks.

also the fact you can put presets on layers in capture one, and lower the opacity (and any layer mask edits, for that matter)

also, the mass amount of options for exporting is way nicer in capture one.

I will say, I do still have lightroom because as mentioned, HDR merging in lightroom is just very nice to have. so for the images I bracket, I still use lightroom, because I have it and its there.

I'd love to see your review of Capture 1 vs PhotoShop to see if both can process RAWs from Fuji. Thanks, Adam!!

Hi Another question, editing one picture is good is you are a landscape photographer. For wedding, vogue etc you need to edit a bunch of photos, not just one. You need a DAM, you need the ability to apply the same adjustments to 100s of pictures. You also need to be able to lift and stamp adjustment, tag photos etc. How do you find Capture One as a DAM or for working with many pictures?

Adam, you teach so good. Will you please publish a video on editing in Lr mobile? A little request from me...

A quick tip if you haven't already done so. In the settings menu in lightroom uncheck the hardware acceleration option on the graphics card. It made mine much faster.

I’m new to Capture One. My question does it have a revert to original feature? Like basically back to original photo from the time it was imported and remove all adjustments. How? Thanks!

Was wondering Adam if you are using LR and Photoshop together how does that compare agains Capture One. I know it's a two on one situation but given what you need for your photo editing, just curious as to whether Capture One would also negate the need for PS.

On a separate note, congratulations on your nomination and shortlisting and suffice to say, Ive cast my vote for you.

Great review. thank you.
Since LR comes with Photoshop, the review should perhaps include this in the comparison to maintain fairness?

I do not need tethering speed as much at the moment. If I did more studio stuff I would likely also shift from Adobe. For me, LR with PS is a biggie. If it was only LR, I would move to C1 in a split second.

I have switched to Capture One a year ago, or at the least, that what says my last coment. I wrote it exactly one year ago. So I have been editing all my pictures in Capture One Pro for a year long. My opinion is: Capture has a SUPERB better color handling. Besides layers, luma layers and such, color handling is SUPERB. I like the idea that you can FULL SCREEN Curves, so you can see the histogram all along the screen, as bigger as much as you like (I personally do like looking at the histogram all the time). I also DO LIKE the algorythms for density adjustment much more than from the one of Lightroom. The one of Capture One is much more realistic and similar to the algorythm of Lightroom 1. There is just one thing I TOTALLY DISLIKE of Capture One and it's that you don't have an slider to de/haze. I use a lot to add haze in black and white wedding pictures for example, or pics which were taken in interiors with low light. Other than that, I just use Capture One Pro. It's incredible for landscape anbd fashion photography. I'm right now testing other raw editors.
