How is this video not wildly popular? I think this is an amazing comparison! Just what I was looking for.

Your code for On1 Photo rRw saved me $20 on their Cyber Monday special. Many thanks!

Have had PS, LR, C1 for one year. *The most faithful conversion (tif or jpg from raw), if you want the converted file to look EXACTLY like the Raw, is with the Nikon NX-D.* C1 is excellent, but adds a little tint of its own, and is inadequate in color fringing correction (ACR/PS is the best on this). The second best for identical with raw conversion after NX-D is the newer Camera Raw (ACR).

I am interested to see a video showing the use of the tools and the best image you could make out of them. The out of the box images are usually not very representative of what you can get with the file at the end of the process, which I think is more important. I switched from Lightroom to C1 for Xtrans files specifically because, at least when I did switch over, lightroom had horrible artifacting when using denoise or sharpening and the colors were weird looking by comparison to programs like photoninja or C1. The worm effect you are talking about is the main problem area for a lot of people when using xtrans files.

I have found that the sharpening and denoise algorithm in C1 provides more of a film grain look and not worms.

I have been using Capture One for a while now. Once you get the hang of it, it's as good if
not better than Lightroom.

Very interesting experiment. The most interesting results for me were shadow recovery with the cave image. Especially if it is able to improve the dynamic range of an image without introducing extra noise from increasing shadows.

I am a big fan of your videos in general, yet any time I see a comparison between raw converters they are all mostly useless IMHO. Even when setting all sliders to there default or zero position, each converter still does some things in the “background” which cannot be turned on or off. When you talked about sharpness, this is a great example of what I am referring to and also color as you mentioned, they all use different custom made input profiles. Sure when looking at X-Trans all bets are off.
In comparing color output, this is all subjective unless you shoot a color checker chart and look at LAB values and see which converter does the most faithful / accurate rendering, yet again pretty much useless unless one is doing color accurate reproductions. All this test really does is compare which converter out of the box gives the best pleasing color, contrast and sharpness yet all these can be changed in all raw converters.

as a Fuji X-T20 owner, I've spent the last year trying to find the best RAW processor. I have Affinity Phot, Luminar 3 and On1 Photo RAW 2019.2. But, recently I turned to Capture One Fuji. First I trie the Express version and I finally bought the Capture One Pro Fuji version. In my opinion, It's the best. Shadows recovery is truly amazing. Even better than On1. Highlights recovery is insane. This definitly a bad point to On1 Photo RAW. And Capture One has diffraction correction for small apertures. Also, the color balance tool is truly a wonderfull tool when coupled with layers and masks.
I think that for Fuji users, Capture One is definitly a must have.

Did you notice the lens correction differences? Maybe you can check that in part 2 also.

Exactly the type of comparison/review that is needed these days!

I definitely would like to see you compare the fringe and chromatic aberration edit to these programs because i was left with the impression that luminar is awful in doing correct chromatic aberration remove

You realize you'll have to do a new version of this every year, right?

Thanks for the video. I wish Capture One was more affordable because it seems like the best. Thinking I might go with On1. Thoughts on Affinity? I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I don't like that it doesn't include file management.

Thank you for doing this video, I remember sending you something asking what you thought was on C1 and On1. It brings an interesting view of what each software has to offer. Right now, I'm between C1 and On1, with the latter offering more features like HDR, Pano but also more masking options. C1 has great masking options too but they are more focused on color, which isn't a bad thing at all, just a different approach to the workflow. I cannot wait to see part 2. What RAW software do you use for your work?

looking at your video with a 1440p monitor on 1440p I thought Capture One and Lightroom were easily the two sharpest. Capture one might have a little better micro-contrast, but that may be because Lightroom seems to have a more flat image. I don't know if it was video compression but I don't know what you're talking about when you say Lightroom is not that sharp. I think Capture One definitely had a slight edge, but Lightroom had better clarity over most of the others, despite its flat tone grading.

Thanks for doing all that work! However, i wonder how useful a comparison of non retouched photos is. In my opinion you end up comparing not so much the quality of the raw processor but how much you like the softwares preset. And i can't speak for all of them, but in LR at least you can change that import preset (even on a per camera basis), and especially if you're using a Fuji camera, you totally should.

Doing a 30 day trial with Capture one. What a great freaking software.

It would have been nice to have DXO11 included in this very interesting review.
