The LookML syntax feels like an attempt to fix something that wasn't broken in SQL syntax. And while there is a ubiquitous shift from traditional data warehouse to data model for BI, there doesn't need to be a simultaneous move to an unnecessary new syntax that isn't any simpler or more scalable than SQL. I'm hope I'm pleasantly surprised with this but coming from Tableau + SQL and seeing this has me disheartened at first.

no way the lookml code was easier to understand that sql. Now people will have to go through the lookml documents time and again for the syntax. Why deviate from industry standard?

The SQL query is wrong. The "Where" clause comes before the "Group By". When we could review a few lines of SQL to catch something that is wrong, we now have to go over so many lines of LookML. How many SQL developers did you survey before making the claim that this LookML format is better than SQL?

I get the idea that LookerML have modules that can be reused in multiple queries. but it was not difficult in SQL itself, and in SQL it's less error prone. Imagine you need to tweak the module in LookerML in order to accommodate different queries, it's just complicating things.

This solution is not ment for the people here that have objections. Its ment for people that dont know sql and need an easy interface to get the answers they need. This higher level language or semantic layer could also be combined with an AI interface. Yes its yikes for the SQL professionals but its usefull. I will look into it.
