"There are no wrong notes, just bad resolutions", is something i've heard a lot, but was never specifically told that those "wrong" notes actually had a place, so I assumed they were literally notes I shouldnt be playing haha. Probably makes me look like an idiot, but a lot of this stuff is assumed when its being taught for some reason. The way you break it down as wrong notes that get assigned a place and play an important role in the music is like a lightbulb for me. You're a terrific educator.

Once again, he brings a whole new meaning to 'jazz articulation'. A beautifully clear and concise lesson on note function in improv.

This is really good. Why you don’t have a million subscribers I can’t say.

Your little “I’m so proud” smile after your lick with all the chromatic notes is so funny.

Thanks Sirvalorsax for taking things that I half understand and making them more concrete, like incorporating those notes intentionally and not hanging on them. For a guy who only went through band from 6th to 11th grade, then went free jazz in my 20s 😝, I can only handle baby bites of theory. Your practical advice and demonstrations always help me go farther in my jazz aspirations!

Thanks to you I can play altissimo an octave above palm D and actually know what notes I’m playing! 4 full octaves some day! 😄

Do you distinguish "wrong" notes from "mistakes?" And do you ever make mistakes?? lol

And thank you for the amazing videos. I started alto sax 3 weeks ago. The journey is kicking my butt, but I'm loving it!

I'll have you know I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order! I said by Eric Morecambe to Andre Previn! –God bless thank you once more for your brilliant videos – Bill – UK

That intro was so beautiful I didn’t even realize it was a bunch of saxophone
I thought it was people singing

Sir, this is a bit mind-blowing and overwhelming. Your understanding of music theory is impressive and fluent, while mine is not. What precursors of understanding and training need to be understood in order to receive what you're saying in context? What's your recommended systematic approach or program to begin building a foundational knowledge of chord and mode structures?

That is why I started playing jazz. I can play whatever notes I want and don't have to practice and I always sound good.

Great explanation. Great advice all throughout as well. I had to figure all of this out on my own years ago, and what you're sharing here will certainly jump-start some folks journey to becoming better improvisers and musicians.
Thanks for making these concise, well-explained videos.
