I live in Southampton and worked on the QE2 during one of its refits. Our temporary employer forgot we were there and never gave us any work to do. So my friends and I just went exploring for 3 days. We didn't even see half of it. But we did see all the stuff ordinarily passengers didn't see. It is ingrained into my memory.

Interesting video! Just an FYI that the portrait you show at 06:02 and 07:24 isn't Queen Elizabeth II. It's her mother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother not Queen Elizabeth II after whom the ship is named.

Nice video of my favorite ship. I used to watch it sail into Halifax (home of Samuel Cunard), 2-3 times per year as a boy and in the late 90s I got to travel Transatlantic on her. A beautiful ocean liner and I am so glad it is still being preserved - even in Dubai. I am booked on the Queen Mary 2 for the first time this December and can't wait. Just a point, the portrait of the Queen that you show in the vid is actually HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, not Queen Elizabeth II. Love your videos.

I worked on her construction in John Brown’s Shipyard and was there the day of the launch. Of course tgere were a few grunts at tge naming “QE 2nd” but that was explained later as The QE2.
Problems with the turbines didn’t help but she served Cunard majestically

The QE2 was also featured in the book Tale of the Body Thief the 4th book in Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. The whole climax of the book takes place on it.

This is not correct. Although most people refer to a ship named after a previous ship as "two" and it uses a number rather than a numeral, the Queen read the card in the formal manner, in which a ship named after a previous ship is called "the second". She announced it correctly but most people assume she didn't because they are used to the more common use of the word 2. However, the original queen mary was named incorrectly. When cuard decided to name their new ship queen victoria they approached King George V and asked permission to name the ship after Britain's greatest queen. George V replied that his wife would be delighted and Cunard quickly changed their plans and named her queen mary instead
