I've been playing guitar longer than you've been alive mate and the number one tip I can give you is: make sure your guitar is IN TUNE. This will help a lot - no joke.
Also, I think a Squire Strat is a very good first electric to learn on. You want a good sounding and playing instrument with good action (strings close to the fingerboard w/o buzz). That way when you press down your fingers won't hurt (for a while anyway) and you'll stay with it. If your guitar sounds bad or is hard to play, you'll give up before you make any progress.
Keep your guitar on a stand or other place where you can pick it up when the mood hits you. This will facilitate playing it and that's what you need to start - lots of practice.
Good luck - its a brilliant instrument! I've heard that people who write music and play an instrument are smarter. I fervently believe that. CHEERS!

Stutter me 123. Happy Birthday to Error for tomorrow. My favourite VST has to be LABS. But I also really love 88E and Creepy Piano2. So it's a close one, LABS just about pips the rest, because of all the different sounds and how much I use it. Another awesome video Dixon and enjoy learning the electric guitar. I would give you tips, but I taught myself to play and just love playing melody leads rather than chords and stuff!! Have fun with it, that's what I do and learn along the way.

Atmos 2 by Elektronik Sound Lab. A Yamaha C3 Grand Piano with ADSR controls and Modulation. Perfect for all Dreamscapes. That´s my favorite Free-VST. Cool that you´ll learn to play Guitar.
