As a 42 year old that has bassfished tournaments with my dad since i was 9. And recently lost my 21 yr old son due to a boating accident he was thank you ❤
Simply thank you for putting this incident out there. Thank you for being willing to take the negativity from idiots due to the video. Thanks for being a stand-up guy in a sport many of us love so much.

Simply thanks, man.

I quit fishing bass tournaments when BASS removed the 150hp limit on bass boats. There is no need to go 70mph or more to catch fish. If one needs to go faster than the 150 will push a boat, take up racing or join NASCAR. It’s just not safe.

Thanks for posting. Lost a best friend this way. Things happen so fast bringing tears that last forever.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm an old helicopter patrol pilot and former Marine that has taken-up boating in SW Florida over the previous 3-years...mastering a boat is NO JOKE and it takes time, patience, study, experience, failure, determination...thank you for sharing this video...another "eye opener" and I'm thankful to my Lord that you're okay...I learned MUCH from your video! Much appreciated.

For the lack of knowledge I am seeing in this comment section, let me enlighten you - think that you are driving to work on a highway at 50mph and a deer runs out in front of you last minute and totals your car. That’s what happened to me but on the water. I hit a submerged floating dock that was brought out to the middle of the lake by a hurricane the day prior. It was unable to be seen and wouldn’t have mattered if I was going 30-40mph, the damage would still be done.

I am a Bassmaster Elite Angler and I am a competitor. Time is valuable in these tournaments and speed is necessary, but contrary to ignorant belief I was running the average speed of any angler - my fellow competitors - on this day.

I share the video for educational purposes, NOT for the spread of misinformation or to make hateful remarks about how I deserved my sustained injuries or even death. Come on people. Help me, help you. I share my experience so the potential outcome of me losing my life doesn’t happen to you or one of your loved ones. Please be respectful and don’t fill my page with ignorance.

I have a family that read these comments. Show some respect.

Professional walleye angler here- you wore the kill switch you'll fish another day. Lesson learned

Impact at the 13 second mark with splash on port side. Boat lurches to starboard violently throwing driver. Boat spins 180 to a sliding 100 ft stop. The dock was mostly on the starboard side, the splash on the port side was the end of the dock. You were lucky you didn't hit it in the middle, you would have gone through the steering console. Glad you are ok. Clarification in your video title would have helped alot. Most people didn't know what was going on. "Boat Accident?" Try "Smashed into SUNKEN DOCK!"

Damn man, I'm glad you're okay. Seems like any time there's a boat accident related video it brings out some of the worst on here. Hitting random submerged stuff could happen to any of us and is definitely always one of my concerns out there.

Like the pilots say “any landing you walk away from is a good one.”👍🏻

I must see this differently than most of the comments.
He was wearing a life vest - check.
He wasn't driving 70mph - check.
He was wearing his tether cord - check.
He had a pretty fast recovery reaction WHILE in a bit of shock (by calling someone) - check.
I think he did pretty good here considering the circumstance - glad he is ok and that he nor anybody was killed.

Sh!t happens fast out there and unless you've experienced a spinout or an impact, then people just blame the driver immediately - nonsense. He obv hit something as would have 99% of everyone watching this. Kudos to you and the safety devices being used

Wes was hit in the head and confused as to what the hell he hit underwater. Many post crying about he took off his life jacket have never been hit hard in the head in any type of accident. Gathering his thoughts he calls someone right away. As a long time boater for decades he gets an A. Walking away from this type of accident not ending up in the water, motor shut off, calling someone right away. Brother I have been there and glad you are ok.. FISH ON...

Huge motor on a small boat running full out in choppy could possibly go wrong?

I had a buddy that was in a bass club where a lot of the guys had really fast boats and ran around like they were NASCAR drivers. He told me one of his club members hit a gator in a canal at top speed and got launched into the trees, they are constantly t-boning each other on Lake Oceechobee

Similar thing happened to my brother-in-law while boating on a river. He was traveling up river and there was a submerged log that was not visible. He went over the log and the log took the engine off his boat. Only thing that saved the motor was the battery cable. Glad to see you had the kill switch hooked up. If not, the boat would probably still be going in circles.

To be fair, that could’ve been so much worse. Luckily you weren’t thrown overboard and your boat didn’t capsize. Glad you’re safe.
