Glad you were able to find an honest and good excavation company. It’s hard to find someone nowadays who won’t try and rip you off. Also, the competence to know what needs to be done and how to do it efficiently. I would imagine having the spoils from the excavation stay on site, saved quite a bit in fuel expenses for him. Nice project repair, and hopefully you’ll see the fruits of your labor by winter.

I appreciate the firmness. A lot of people would give up after the first failure. So let the pond serve you.

Easy way to start a siphon, pump the siphon line full, from the bottom, until water comes out the high (inlet) end. Air will naturally be pushed out. Close your outlet valve at the pond. Remove the pump, open the outlet valve and watch the water gush out. I filled my siphon line like this to drain my above ground pool cover for over 20 years. Works great. Time how long it takes to fill the line and you won't have to keep watch on the inlet. If you pump the water in from the bottom slowly you won't have to remove the inlet filter and the reverse flow will clean out the inlet screen.

Get ready for a beautiful lake! Your honesty is so refreshing. You put in the research and work and the lake will pay you back immensely. In 2002, in Westmoreland. County I put in a 20/x 40 in ground pool. When all was said and done it was $33, 000. Today the same pool would cost almost $100, 00. How do I know? My friend, who wanted a 15x30 was quoted, as you said, $85, 00. PLUS the upkeep every year. Openings and closings $600 p/y, chemicals, geez chlorine has tripled, what in 2020 was $150 is now $350. Heater maintenance, pump maintence, solar cover....
The people who critize are jealous couch potatoes who have no ambition, only envy. Congrats on your lake buddy!

Great video and great pond.
I just got a quote for digging a 1/4 care pond for $40, 000. and im in heavy clay so none would have to be trucked in! I couldnt believe it. Should be closer to $4000-10, 000. Im buying an old D8H dozer and doing it myself

Excellent video. I follow many homesteaders both in Canada and the United States. I enjoy completing various projects like ponds, workshops, trails etc on my small acreage. You are the only one who puts it all in perspective by revealing costs. Thank you and keep up the great work.
