These are the differences between the ps2 slim 7000 and 9000 models.
The power supply is the main difference. 9000 has an internal power supply.
Also the ventilation and matted vrs glossy top of the console.

Didn't know the 9000 existed. I thought there was only the fat and slim.

I own 2 slims (SCPH-70012 from 2004 and SCPH-79001 from 2007) and a fat model (SCPH-39001 from 2002) and they all still function perfectly without damaging disks. If people want to ask which PS2 slim is the best choice, it all depends on what they want from their system.

If people want the best PS1 backwards compatibility in a slim model, the first choice is the SCPH-700xx series (earliest slims from 2004) since that's the only slim model with hardware based PS1 emulation. One downside is it's prone to overheating and the MechaCon crash that damages drive mechanisms and fries up the laser after attempts to read unofficial or scratched up disks.

If reliability in playing games off disks is heavily important, then the SCPH-9000x model from 2008 is the first choice (SCPH-7700x model from 2006 and SCPH-7900x model from 2007 are fairly decent as well).

If there's one slim model I try to avoid, it's the SCPH-7500x from 2005 since it has the most compatibility issues with numerous PS1 titles and certain PS2 titles after Sony replaced the PS1 MIPS R300A CPU providing hardware based PS1 emulation with Deckard (PowerPC CPU providing software based PS1 emulation) as a cost cutting maneuver and the replacement of the CPU affected the system's software (Sony updated the BIOS in the 2006 model SCPH-7700x to fix most of these compatibility issues with PS1 titles and PS2 titles and the SCPH-7900x model from 2007 is basically the lighter version of SCPH-7700x after increased changes to the design of the hardware).

7000 you can power in any region with that power supply, you can also buy a European 7000 Slim PS2 and it will work safely on the US power grid. Only the 7000 models are universal for different regions power.

90000 series has a main advantage over the 70000 series, no overheating

The PS2 70000 series was the last to have the MIPS R3000 there for PS1 backwards compatibility, it's not full hardware as there's no GTE but it has everything else
The 75000 series and later replaced this with a different chip that's pure emulation and that introduced some compatibility issues with a small number of PS1 and even PS2 games. If you also hate yourself the 70000 series has a truncated network adaptor in it so if you're comfortable with soldering in 40 wires you can gain back the IDE HDD support

If standing a ps2 or fat ps3 vertically you can rotate the PS logo to make it match

The best version is the 70012. It has original PS1 hardware and two internet ports provided. 1 for landline (useless I know but its included) and the 2nd with an ethernet port. The rest of the other were just stripped out and butchered

The 700xx are the ultimate version, they have all thr ps1 components inside, so you get 100% compatibility with ps1, and sony left out IDE circuitry inside, if youre skilled you can solder 39 wires in various places on the IDE circuit you could add a micro SD to the 700xx and play games trough HD like you would on a FAT ps2, you dont even need to trim the case for this mod if youre skilled enough

I have a barely used 9000 version that does not boot up. There are no repair shops nearby and no one wants to buy one. I have had such great memories with it. It feels bad to have it eating dust on the shelf.

I had a 9000. They are good if you are playing on dosc but thats it. Im a modder and i wanted the easily moddable console, which is the 7000 version. But i bought a og fat, because they are better than both.

model 79xx is the best for mini ps2 because of smaller motherboard

But if there is a power supply problem in the 9000 it’s much easier to change up the outer power supply of a 7000

If you have something glossy then you gotta treat it with cautious.
