Wood Turned Bowls – 2 Blanks 1 Bowl Video – Part One Shaping
In this two-part series, I will make a carved exterior and a solid interior bowl that come together as one piece. Or at least that's the plan. I have this idea and I just have to see if it will work. Turning wood bowls is all about problem-solving and this is one heck of a woodturning puzzle to solve. Along the way, you will see how I turn wood bowls and I will share with you my thought process as I create this unique final wood turned bowl.

Great video. Agree totally about experimenting with ideas. Honey Locust appreciation story... Years back, I did a lot of deer hunting with bow. My favorite stand was in a big honey locust tree and I spent many hours dwelling in it. Often squirrels would be up in the tree dismantling seed pods and dropping the rock hard seeds on to the stand, ting, ting, ting. No good for hunting, but funny and entertaining. I also noted that deer loved to eat the fallen pods in the Fall. If you break a pod open you'll notice a delightful fruity, fermented smell. The deer love them. Honey Locust is a loved tree and the wood is beautiful. Thank you, Kent.

Prettiest piece of poplar I ever worked with was lightning struck. Full of greens blacks and purples.
Thanks for explaining the ground off heel on your bowl gouge. In a live class my hand would have shot up with a question about it straight off. Luckily for you, (and me) I have to sit patiently and just listen. You’re a great teacher 😊

Can not wait to see the conclusion of this. It is probably way over my skill level for now but this kind of project gives me motivation to get better and more accurate. Thanks for sharing your work.

I watched your video on making a bowl for Beads of Hope and thought that was a great idea. I said to myself, "Self, we're gonna do that too". About 2 days later i got an email at work about doing a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish through my company. Im still going to do the Beads of Hope bowl but I'm taking the dozens of bowls, boxes and trinkets i have in my shop and im auctioning them for donations to Make A Wish. I might even set up my mini lathe on Saturdays in front of my City Electric Supply branch and try to stir up an audience to raise more donations. Charity's... !

Absolutely love the concept! Definitely going on my gotta try this list. One thought on mating the two bowls. If you used the shape finder on the inside of the outer bowl I think it would give a more accurate template for the outside of the inner bowl. Really looking forward to part 2!

This one is fascinating and I look forward to Part 2. I suspect I'll have to add it to my "try this" list. I appreciate your explanations of what you'd do differently on a 2nd try. We should all learn as we go. At the end, will you share the process improvements? Thanks, as always.
