Inside Atoms: The Proton Numbers

An atom, if broken down, is made of a nucleus and electrons. The nucleus consists of positively charged protons and chargeless neutrons, which makes it positive overall. To be electrically neutral, an atom will have to gain the same amount of electrons as the protons (the negative charges of electrons cancel out the positive charges of protons).
